Football on Q105?

Post by Deleted User 16041 » Sat Sep 09, 2023 12:41 pm

Why are they broadcasting High School Football games on WQQO? They just pivoted the station. Now this? It makes no sense. Let's take what is supposed to be a fun radio station and put Whitmer HS football on it Friday nights. Way to go! Slow clap! Just be even more all over the place with that stick.

Wait, they are probably getting paid for it. That station must make zero money, so spread its legs. Church shows on Sunday mornings are coming.

For a second, I thought 105.5 had flipped to sports. Regional sports would be one thing but high school sports on a full market signal? That's a bit odd. Still, it shows that 105.5 isn't really a priority station. Yeah, Religion and public affairs shows can't be that far behind.

I know the Ticket has Central Catholic, and the Panthers used to be on the Zone when it was still around. 107.7 the Wolf airs St. John's games. I think 1230 used to air high school games at one point.

A lot of possibility's here. I do wonder if Cumulus could unload 105.5 to say BBN or Family Life Radio eventually. Meaning, they are just keeping the station warm till then. Maybe Sports will move to 105.5 and 100.7 would be spun off or changed once again.

1470 aired Whitmer games when I worked there in the late 90s. Don King had the call, then was right back in Saturday mornings for his weekly show.

The Browns :x were on 107.7 at one point but they are now on WXKR. I miss Steve Gorman when they air the sucky Browns.

are the Browns still being simulcast on XKR and the Ticket this year?

still makes little sense to me how the Lions got kicked off the Ticket to make room for the Browns when they could have just run one team on 100.7 and the other on 94.5 but 1) it's Cumulus so the cheapest solution is the best solution and 2) there's been no real logic to which pro teams air on Toledo radio for quite a while now

The Browns :x are just on XKR I think.... but could be on both.

I'm not a big sports person but both teams suck, Browns way worse though. Yeah The Cloud does things as cheap as possible.

The Browns on XKR is fine. It is an NFL team that people actually care about, they have a considerable fan base.

Q105 is running High School football. It is a poor attempt at being local. High School Football nobody cares but the parents of the kids that are playing the game in a city the size of Toledo. Just Saying.

After looking at the ratings you would think QQO would consider getting out of the high school sports field. After all they are .2 ahead of a translator

They absolutely have zero idea what they are doing at that station. This is not how to be local.

The station is being programmed like a small market station. That might work in Adrian or Fremont but probably won't work well in Toledo.

Probably? It won’t work at all.

Let’s break format on a station that is supposed to be fun, and not be fun at all on one of the funnest nights of the week, Friday.

There is nothing fun about WQQO. Which is unreal for a pop music station. There is no strategy for that station. It’s a disaster.

This is a weird one. I mean if they were to shift to more of a small-town station, omitting Toledo and focusing on say, the rural areas in Lucas County and the eastern part of Fulton, they need a different strategy.

Like shifting the music format to like an AC format, as WMTR is classic hits. Local AD's for business's in Berkey, Swanton, Whitehouse, Waterville, etc... . They already have small town sports :? . Also, national news at the top of every hour. 105.5 WWLF(Western Lucas, Fulton) the voice of Western Lucas and Eastern Fulton County.

Not going to happen but if it were that's how I would think it should be.
