There playing non-country Christmas music, they are ID'ing as 107.7 The Wolf but no mention of country. My guess is, this is temporary to compete with The River. Still, I would think they would be playing Christmas country.

94.1 Duke FM in mid-Michigan went all-Christmas last year, first with a pretty standard mix and then corrected course to include more country Christmas music, I guess after listeners complained. Of course, they also called the mix "Christmas in the Country," which hinted the Christmas music wasn't a sign of a format change. This year, they've stuck to their normal format, playing just one or two Christmas songs an hour and sticking to country artists.
If there's a station that has done 100% country Christmas music and been successful with it, I'm not aware of it. I've heard a number of country stations play as much pop as country Christmas music, if not more. It's jolting to hear Mariah Carey on a country station, but keep in mind country stations typically lose a chunk of their listenership to whatever station in their market is doing all-Christmas even if only for the holiday season.

When people tune into a country music radio station - they expect (and want) to hear country music. End of story.

Going 100% Christmas (other than, say, on 12/24 and 12/25) is a bad move, in my opinion, unless the intention is to flip formats after the holiday. I'm not necessarily predicting a format change, but I'd say one is possible.

I noticed this too. My first thought is since they're still running Wolf sweepers, they'll most likely be back to format after the holiday. The pop Christmas is a bit of a head scratcher.

Not sure if this is recent or not, but the station's Facebook page is down and its Twitter page has been moved to "protected" (private) status.

The owner of The Wolf (Dan Haslinger) is an entrepreneurial kind of a guy, who has investments in several businesses, and real estate. He loves radio, but isn't really a radio guy. He did build the original WJZE Oak Harbor, on 97.3, and launched it with Smooth Jazz. That was many years ago, but he liked Smooth Jazz so much, it would not surprise me if he tried it again. It would probably be a hit with the aging Perrysburg "wine and cheese" crowd, and 107.7 certainly covers Perrysburg and Maumee. I have worked in many markets, large and small, and nobody wants to be the "other" country station.

I don't have a deep memory of Jazzy 97.3, other then one time at The Toledo Auto Show around 1996, I believe one of the dealers had a Lexus or a Acura displayed and they had the radio going on the inside. The radio was on WJZE.

Around the fall or so of 96, they flipped to classic rock.

With 107.7, part of me is thinking it could flip as it's more then obvious T-town has too many country station's in it's listening range. To Smooth Jazz? I wouldn't mind that but my guess would be a Jack-FM type station, if any change were to occur.

The only Country Christmas station I can think of is SiriusXM's station during the season.

107.7 uses a satellite feed during times other than mornings and afternoons.

I don't understand why they'd make their social media pages private, as radio stations often use social media to connect with their listeners. Their website hasn't been updated in quite a while either.

I still remember for a few weeks in the summer of 2020 when they tried a "Merica" theme, with live free or die and "Untrucking believable", plus a "Blue collarish" logo. I still don't understand what that was about.

The obvious format voids are Variety Hits, Hard Rock and Alternative Rock. I suppose one could also argue Sports and News/Talk each deserve a better FM signal in the region. An older flavor of Classic Hits than what WRQN plays cannot be ruled out, either.

Even if 107.7 were to dump Country, most if not all of the Toledo Metro would still have the format available on at least three FM signals (and in some places, at least four).

Would the older flavor be 60's and 70's, so like an oldies format?

Yeah, Country is way overdone in T-town, I've been saying this for eons.

Right, in Toledo you have of course: K-100 (9.99fm), 98.3 Nash Icon and 103.7 CKY. In the northern suburbs of Toledo, Monroe county Michigan and extreme northern Toledo, 95.3 WQTE and 102.9 W4 country come in fine. In the east and southern suburbs you got WKXA from Findlay Ohio. So Country is represented pretty well.

Toledo has never had a Jack-fm type station, so I'd say that's possible. Oldies of the 60s and 70sI think is a very strong possibility, something very much like 107.5 The Big Buck out of Lima. Alt rock, I wouldn't hold my breath unless 107.7 would get an HD-2 channel and pair it up with a translator somehow, but the only place I could think of to put one would be 105.1, but yeah not gonna happen.

Clearly something is going on here, if all the country music is gone. So it's looking like a new format is coming. So, I'll wager they keep The Wolf name but go oldies or classic hits.

I think they should stay Christmas music permanently.

Hey, it'd be better than Potty 103.3, WIOT, 92.5, 100.7, 105.5, and a few others

First bet is no change. Second would be 60/70s oldies. I don't see smooth jazz or rock or rap. Talk would be 100% off the bird, and would be a better format for 1520 or 730 (if ever sold) than 107.7
