Heard that station for the first time at my house in Midland, Michigan when I was a sophomore in high school when I was 17 years old in the Summer of 1982 when it was a hit or Top 40 station!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHYR-FM (CHEER radio)

Also heard this song on CHYR back in August of 1982, the group Toronto "Your Daddy Don't Know" that went to # 77 (Hot 100) & at # 28 (Billboard Mainstream Rock) in September of 1982. (audio only) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBizoQF ... onto-Topic

They were 710 as a 10kW daytimer.

At some time, they added nighttime service on 730 (they informed the audience to listen to a strange "Clockwork and whistles" recording and tune to 730 to continue listening) so that listeners could follow them there.

They briefly went to 710 for awhile.

Too bad they took the AM array out when they moved to 96.7 FM. It had nowhere near the coverage range AM 710 had in the day.

I wonder if they left the ground system in place. It would have been neat if CKWW put towers back up to have that booming 710 daytime simulcasting 580.

730 WJYM BG/Toledo/Perrysburg, OH still has a null to Canada to protect a non-existent 730AM at night- use it or lose it, I would say.

CHYR had a decent daytime signal into Lansing when they were on 710 way back when. WVIC-AM 730 was an AM daytimer that signed off at local sunset, about the same time CHYR made the switch from 710 to 730. I remember the "clockwork" sounds and announcement to tune to 730. As WVIC was usually off the air by that time, I could pick up a faint signal from CHYR on 730 at reduced power around dusk. The signal dissipated as nightfall set in and propagation ramped up.

Shortwave is the ORIGINAL satellite radio.

I've thought that for years. It's a pretty deep null too, as are most of theirs in any direction. I remember flipping through the dial along the Turnpike in about 1999 and not even hearing WJYM around Sandusky. Along Ohio 2 heading east from Toledo, their null is noticeable as well.
Protection of stations that no longer exist always has annoyed me.
Did CHYR on either 710 or 730 put much signal into Ohio? I remember reading about a null toward WLW when they were on 710.

There is also CFZM 740 Toronto, which under Agreement, the 0.5 mV/m contours are not supposed to overlap. Lake Erie overlap is allowed.

They can't overlap WVFN 730 either.

They might do better sending the signal into Ohio from Michigan, NE of Toledo. But that would take a lot of land, even if it were an endfire/in line/slight dogleg.

The thing that made CHYR move back to 730, after being authorized to use 710 at Night, after an occasional board poster here complained about interference to WLW 700. WLW covers Michigan with a skywave, and that was the service that was disrupted.

I have tape (1977 or so) of CHYR daytime in Ohio on their AM. Maybe going to have to digitize my old cassettes before they disintegrate and all this old radio history goes with it? Remembering 3WE Cleveland then too (between WTAM's)
