Toledo's Zone Moving to 94.5 HD-2 May 1st

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

While hard rock on 105.5 would be awesome, there must be enough ad revenue for Cumulus to keep Hot AC/CHR on Q105.5 even with their crappy ratings. As long as ad revenue keeps rolling in for Q, not much will change, ratings or not.

I see Delmarva already closed on 104.7 in Albuquerque the station is currently silent. Me thinks 106.5 might go silent for a brief period as well, as Delmarva might not have everything ready to go as of yet.

I see the logo has changed slightly, a little purple.

First person to understand what radio is now about! Congrats! Forget ways to keep a license or even ratings. Money money money is what all broadcasting is about. It explains why Q still exists without local live talent, why a non-local/Satellite CHR is #1, along with a few other anomalies in many more markets.

As ABBA sang, "Money, Money, Money"....that part sucks. I've still tried to figure out how 92.5 gets #1 Toledo without local talent, how cities like Cincinnati and Chicago could have the top station in town be the heritage AM signal, while others crash and burned from their summit (like WLS-AM)?
K-100 used to draw double-digits with static, but after firing 3 of their top staff in the last 10 years, the left-overs aren't holding the big numbers for K-100 anymore. So, we really don't care if FM104 and Q105 ratings are going South, as long as the advertising dollars hold, who cares about 2.5 share?

I do know that the 106.5 boys have made it know on social media to move your radio dials to 100.7 if you want to hear sports programming.

So the question remaining: is there any way whatsoever to make any money on any of Toledo-areas AM stations remaining: 730, 1230, 1370, 1520 or 1560, (even though all will have a translator or HD-2 signal)? IOW, I should forget about taking a business plan to the bank and expect to get a loan for half a million bucks to snag 730AM and new translator from Jimmy Swaggart?

(short of a full-service, commercial free station with one hour each of soul, polka, oldies, R&B, rap, Country, disco, classic country, AOR, Hot AC, NASCAR races, baseball, American Top 40 reruns, hip-hop, and just an hour a day of 'colon-blow' concoctions ?) What can/could make money in Toledo radio in it's last decade of relevance?

No. AM is dying. The fact that one thinks of money first is a tell-tale sign of why radio and TV will be gone in 20 yrs. AM/MW is the first to go, like shortwave did.

Yeah, if you wanna fail. Once again, AM is dying. Plus, with older equipment, an ignored frequency, FM and stream radios without AM tuners, way too much media competition (streaming, SXM, Podcasts, etc.), my guess is that AM's nail has not just been hammered in all the way. But the corpse can't get out either. Let the reality speak for itself.

Only with a full comittment to Classic Country or other talk format, you can't do anything on AM these days.

So did anyone have two radios playing for the format flip? Did they air a montage of classic programming for either station, clips of Bill Michaels playing the Lumineers or Norm Wamer announcing women's golf on the radio?? Did they close with the national anthem and simulcast it on 1470???

I don't know how each station flipped, liked the last song the Zone played. Since it's only moving to an HD signal, probably just cold turkey.

100.7 did indeed flip to sports. Nothing really new as it's only ESPN Radio. But there were some technical difficulties when I listened a little while ago. Quite a few of the same imaging is still around, except the VO artist re-recorded a portion to say 100.7.

106.5 already flipped, and I'm not impressed, but not surprised either. It's yet another Christian talk and teaching station, branded as The Truth. I checked that one for a while. There was no mention of WTOD at the TOH, and there was some dead air as well.

Wished the Zone still existed on a different frequency like 105.5. I'll probably still listen on the internet.

I know 100.7 was making announcements about the The Zone's relocation days beforehand.

What about 106.5? Was that station notifying listeners of the move to 100.7? Incompetent Cumulus management botched a similar format move in Grand Rapids quite badly a couple years ago.

Cumulus actually did notify listeners of both the Ticket and the Zone moving to their new frequencies on the air and their Facebook pages. The Facebook posts were pinned.

Sounds like the folks in Toledo did a decent job, unlike the stooges in Grand Rapids. Thanks for the info.

100.7-Flipped at 12:08 to The Ticket. They cut off in the middle of Green Day's American Idiot. At the top of the hour they ID'd as WXKR HD-2, so it was just a matter of changing on audio feed.

106.5- Simulcasted on 100.7 for an hour, then cut off around 1am with a silence, then had sound issues for about an hour. Then it was fine. No local ID at the top of the hour though.
