What's the deal with 88.7 CIMX's signal?

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

What's the deal with 88.7 CIMX's signal?

The station used to come in really well in The Toledo area, now it's really scratchy. I mean, 88.9 WTPG out of Whitehouse Ohio, has been on the air for years and 88.7's signal was never this bad. Did they lower there power? or re-direct there transmitter?

I've noticed the signal is a bit staticky as well in Toledo. I'm not sure why.

88.9 WTPG did increase the strength of its signal in the direction of Toledo a few years ago.

Bell Media neglects Windsor when it comes to capital resources. I suspect there is a lot of equipment in use that is in proverbial "limp home" mode. CIMX's transmission antenna has been functioning erratically for several years now, and it's gotten worse within the past couple years.

I just tuned my home theater receiver to CIMX, and indeed, the signal is noticeably weaker than usual. Cannot decode stereo indoprs and am receiving a somewhat noisy signal in monaural. 89.9 CBE-FM and 93.9 CIDR, meanwhile, are both being received loudly & clearly. Not even a hint of scratchiness on CBE-FM!

I'm even able to decode a stereo signal quite easily from 95.9 CJWF, which only sends ~11.5 kW of juice in my direction compared to the ~85 kW of juice that CIMX should be sending.

Wouldn't surprise me if CIMX is broadcasting on a backup antenna at reduced power.

CIMX was damn powerful, like CKLW in its day, the signal was good enough to even show-up in the book in ratings in the States, now it's a dog. Wonder if they are limping along on aux transmitter?

Both 89.9 and 93.9 can be received in my house in Toledo than 88.7.

I'm just south of Toledo, 93.9 is unlistenable and now 88.7 too. I'm not super far from Whitehouse so that's probably why. If I go 20 minutes up the road I get 93.9 from Lima Ohio.

93.9 from Lima starts to come in around BG.

I'm just north of BG, so both kinda overlap each other where I am. In Findlay WBKS comes in perfect.

Definitely when you get down to Findlay WBKS starts to have a great signal. It's a local when you get down to Lima.

I got 93.9 Kiss in Toledo. Just turn the rod antenna. It's a good signal.

Dont know why if Bell Media doesnt want any metro Det focus anymore, why not go directional then on the signals toward Chatham/London . But maybe the great friends of canadian broadcasting the CRTC wouldnt allow it.

Bell Media? I see iHeart Canada owns Pure Country 89 and Virgin Radio (iHeartradio.ca/purecountry/windsor). Must be to do with Nationalism... or not stepping on iHeart Detroit's toes. Kind of like the cable companies do, even though cable is now deregulated in Ohio.

iHeart Canada is branding that Bell Media has licensed from the US-based iHeart Media.

Bell Media is still the owner.

Ok.... alittle digging.... that's part of the agreement with Bell. Bell cannot interfere with iHeart, as iHeart cannot interfere with Bell Media. Purely contractual.... not a CRTC or Radio Canada thing.
