Have K100's ratings ever been lower?

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

Have K100's ratings ever been lower?

Post by MWmetalhead » Thu Mar 11, 2021 6:39 am

I realize many stations would love to have a 6.8 share, but for K100, that's a pretty bad result!

Have they ever been so low?

Other notables:
- Second consecutive survey where 92.5 Kiss FM enjoyed nice gains
- Q105.5 is actually showing a little bit of life! (Their ratings still stink, though)
- Really bad book for WIOT. Is iHM's boilerplate, trainwreck playlist finally starting to harm ratings performance?
- Phenomenal book for Speedy. I'm guessing this is where some of K100's former listening went.

K100'S been going through a transitional phase since the unexpected death of Harvey Steele and the retirement of Gary Shores. Lyn & Cliff are a great duo, but you can't replace Shores and Steele. Not to mention, competition like the Wolf, CKY and NashIcon have increased and could also be taking away former listeners.

94.5 actually beat IOT and the Zone seems to have few listeners. 104.7 is down to one or 2 local jocks. Toledo's rock audience likely prefers local over voice tracked personalities.

IOT is the stalest it's been in a few years.

I don't recall either IOT or K100's ratings ever being so low.

Last time XKR beat IOT they trumpeted the hell out of it on-air for months, but andy Stuart was still in charge at Cumulus then. Nice to see IOT losing though. Stale music, stale old Boob and Tom in mornings and their only local jock left is boring old Scott Miller in afternoons, he's a step down from Kramer and certainly is no match for Grizzly down the dial at XKR.

Of course the Zone doesn't show up at all-when it comes to rock, if it ain't 80's, Toledo ain't interested.

Speedy jumped because of the election and aftermath, which is strange because I remember them NOT doing so four years ago

Scott seems to be a good guy but is too mellow for IOT. He's better on the River.

I've never seen K-100's this low and I've been following radio since 1997. K-100s always been 1# or 2#(at worst!). Why The market needs 3 country stations, I'll never know.

At least the country stations have a different style now, one CHR, one AC-style, and one Classic.

Your Hick Parade at 99.9, The Wolf, Q95 Country, CKY, Gnash Icon... too much competition. Let's not forget that surrounding counties recieve other stations such as 100.9 in Clyde and WKXA Find A Lay. WAY oversaturated.

I loved WKXA as a classic hits station, ugh was made when they changed. Findlay has all together in the listening are: K-100,WKXA,T-102,WCKY,WPFX(kinda), and I'm forgetting one. Toledo area: K-100, WCKY,WPFX,WQTE,WWWW,WMIM.

WCKY, at least to me is tolerable. I think it's better then 98.3 Nash Icon.

I like Buckeye Country 103.7 CKY better than NashIcon as NashIcon plays some newer hits. CKY, unfortunately, still has to run new country syndicated shows due to contractual obligations.

I would prefer it without all the New Country stuff too, just a straight ahead Gold based format.

Maybe 103.7 can dump all of the current syndicated programming when the contracts run out and just run the Gold format.

I was blown away by the last numbers. without a strong local presence in 20 years, I was surprised VKS was up there on 12+ and even ahead of Santa 101.5. But the biggest surprise was the tie crash at 3rd: WRQN tied with K-100 ? WTF And SPeeDy parked right after that with a spot that they don't see very often, but probably a lot of "Last Days of Limbaugh" listening, along with the capital insurrection, plus Scott's show is decent when he doesn't have an 8 minute stop set and that's half the time you're driving home. It's a crazy set of numbers, and it blew me away at first (and second) Two bad Cume-u-less and IHeartless are both bankrupt, meaning not much chance of more local activity on the air. Still baffled why VKS nabbed top spot. At least Denny can deliver listeners on 93.5 while he couldn't on 105.5 By the way, I lost track of Andy Stuart- where's he parking the Caddy these days?
PS: 94.9, with a translator signal only (and HD-2), gets a whole lot more of a share that I would expect with that low of power- I suspect that could put that music on AM1230 and draw twice the audience?

Yeah because lots of people want to listen to music on AM in 2021.

I guess at least you didn't say "they'd get higher ratings than K100 if their call letters were WLQR"

I kind of thought 1230 might flip BIN network at one point, but it appears there sticking with sports. There likely going to be the only sports station in town here very soon, however it's not like anyone is going to miss The Ticket.

The Ticket's been a walking corpse ever since Norm Wamer was fired. Good riddance.
