Big News regarding ESPN 1000, Chicago
Re: Big News regarding ESPN 1000, Chicago
I am very familiar with their Cleveland station. Curious as to what changes they will make.

The dumbasses at Good Karma below up a moderately successful country station with a 4 share in favor of an All Sports format at 94.5 FM in Milwaukee that now grabs around a 0.7 share.
Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.
Re: Big News regarding ESPN 1000, Chicago
To be fair though, there were already three other country stations with signals in Milwaukee. WTKM in Hartford, WMBZ in West Bend, plus WMIL in Milwaukee. This new FM station also gives the Brewers and Bucks a clear FM signal on days when there are conflicts with the Packers.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 8:17 pmThe dumbasses at Good Karma below up a moderately successful country station with a 4 share in favor of an All Sports format at 94.5 FM in Milwaukee that now grabs around a 0.7 share.

Milwaukee has two all-sports stations on FM plus at least one on AMbigjer54 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 8:42 pmTo be fair though, there were already three other country stations with signals in Milwaukee. How many sports stations does Milwaukee need? I think there are around 5, with at least two carrying all national programming. I was picking up 540 around the New Buffalo area, not bad for 400 watts!

They’ll charge $10.00 a month for podcasts no one wants and install friends of Craig K. in management positions regardless of the qualifications or lack thereof (*cough* Aaron Goldhammer *cough*).
WSCR has the Cubs and WMVP has no local franchise to build around. Used to be the White Sox and Bulls flagship back in the day. Craig K really has nothing to lose.

Put fricken Radio Disney back on that 50K stick, probably get better ratings than not....

All five all-sports stations do badly in the 12+ glorified beauty pageant demo. Doesn’t mean they are losing money, and Good Karma has typically eschewed ratings in favor of sales. WTMJ/WKTI are obviously still Nielsen subscribers via an inherited contract with Scripps, and 540 got carried over. I’d expect that contract to lapse at some point.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 8:17 pmThe dumbasses at Good Karma below up a moderately successful country station with a 4 share in favor of an All Sports format at 94.5 FM in Milwaukee that now grabs around a 0.7 share.
Craig Karmazin has always been tight with ESPN, dating back to when he had the ESPN affiliation on 1510 Waukesha and brokered airtime in the evening on another AM in the market.
What is absolutely ponderous is their failure to simulcast Brewers and Bucks PBP on 94.5. I highly doubt that it would imperil WTMJ’s ratings.

WMVP has almost no local anything to build around. Waddle and Silvy have their fans, but that's more disenfranchised former WSCR listeners tired of Dan Bernstein's act than anything.Myron Falwell wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2019 1:29 pmThey’ll charge $10.00 a month for podcasts no one wants and install friends of Craig K. in management positions regardless of the qualifications or lack thereof (*cough* Aaron Goldhammer *cough*).

Bulls radio has been worthless in the post-Jordan era. The White Sox won the Series on WMVP, right in time for them to move to WSCR in 2006. Then when that station essentially dropped the Sox to get the Cubs, ESPN went cheap and allowed themselves to be outbid by WLS-AM(!) and then WGN for the Sox rights.

Agreed about Goldhammer. He’s not good on the air either.

Oh please. WTKM and WMBZ are non-factors in the core of the metro. To suggest a couple sub 1-share stations with very limited market coverage should somehow influence programming of a Class B blowtorch is silly. To be fair though, there were already three other country stations with signals in Milwaukee. WTKM in Hartford, WMBZ in West Bend, plus WMIL in Milwaukee. This new FM station also gives the Brewers and Bucks a clear FM signal on days when there are conflicts with the Packers.
As for the "clear FM signal on days when there are conflicts with the Packers," you do realize you are only speaking a small fraction of Brewers and Bucks contests, right?
Damn near all the Milwaukee Bucks contests should be simulcast on FM 94.5, IMO.
KTI Country was quickly establishing itself as a popular station in the market and was starting to give WMIL a run for its money in the ratings. What Karmazin did to that station is absolutely disgraceful!!!
Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

Re: Big News regarding ESPN 1000, Chicago
I used to listen to Rizzo and Goldhammer about 10 years ago when all I had at work was terrestrial radio. WKNR comes in good in Toledo during the day and they were the best of a bad selection in middays, but that doesn't mean they were good. It was pretty hacky radio. Also, they filled in for Jim Rome nationally and kissed his ass to the point of using Rome's show jargon on their show, then backstabbed him to get demoted off of KNR to extend their show by an hour.

'TMJ is a MLB and NFL flagship. I'll bet you a beer that they are required by contract to be a Nielsen subscriber.Jerry Falwell's alter ego Myron wrote:WTMJ/WKTI are obviously still Nielsen subscribers via an inherited contract with Scripps, and 540 got carried over.
