106.5 Toledo

A place to go for those of you who wish to discuss happenings in OH, IN, IL, WI, and Ontario. OSU sucks, by the way.

Cumulus is holding on to the "Ticket" intellectual property and call letters.
Might we be seeing 98.3 flip soon? Or even 105.5?
I can't imagine Nash Icon is making tons of money trying to be a Monroe County station, especially when their signal in Monroe proper is a rimshot. The classic country crowd seems to prefer 103.7 these days (despite the fact that 103.7 has syndicated new-country crap on from 12mid-10am). On the other hand, how many shades of lipstick have they tried on the pig that is 105.5 now? And it continues to sit in the ratings basement.
I'm not seeing any flips soon. Toledo is not a major market that flips after 2 consecutive bad books. In fact, radio ratings really don't matter in the Toledo market. You've heard me say this a 1,000 times. If that was true, all of the above mentioned would have flipped. You all need to start thinking money instead. What can the stockholders get behind? That's the only consideration... once again. When you think this way, you'll "get" Toledo TV and radio. Proof: Stations that do not subscribe to Neilson Ratings keep going and going. Ratings can be helpful, but really aren't required to the business.

What's more- Toledo "suffices" to get most audiences (*With exception to the under 30's). Every major format is covered no matter what that station says the formats actually are (Q105). Everyone is covered. Nobody has the testicles or the boobs to stand out of any crowd. Once again... boring market, yet adequate.

And let's not forget that the company does research on this. Directly through music testing, perceptuals, etc. So this may just a an inside shop worker's liking issue. What the prison guards want may not be what's best for the prisoners or the warden. Think about that.

FYI- South Bend/Niles is the exact same way. So Toledo is not really the exception for medium to small markets.

They're not going to have 98.3 or 105.5 running ESPN Radio almost literally 24/7. Get real. They'll figure out somewhere to stick the Lions and Buckeyes (football, anyway) games.

Could 94.5 air the Lions and/or the Buckeyes? Classic rock is the music format that pairs best with sports PBP in medium to large markets IMHO

Sold! $110,000.

RadioInsight has the report.

A nonprofit purchased the station.
This goes to show where the values really are on these rimshot facilities. I may be wrong, but didn't Dan Dudley get a couple MILLION for this clunker?

Definitely possible, they had the Browns games on 94.5 for a year or two sometime in the early 2010s

Yep. 100.7 or 94.5. Extremely obvious. After all, the soccer moms looking for "Recurrent oriented CHR" (really Hot AC) won't listen to Q105 for that. And 98.3 just is not a fit for that- format, locational or community. Loyalty will definitely be lost.

94.5 would likely be the new home for Lions and Tigers.

I know the Browns were on there from 2011-2012 until Cumulus dropped them. They also aired national games on there for a time too.

I predicted awhile ago that 106.5 would go to a Jesuscaster, though I thought it would become an Air-1 affiliate. So this isn’t too surprising. My guess is that the Zone v4.0 is on borrowed time. Interesting enough, the original Zone was flipped to the Ticket and it looks like it will (probably) happen again twelve years later.

I was pretty mad when 106.5 the Zone flipped all those years ago. When this one goes, I (along with pretty much everyone else) won’t even care.

I think killing off the Zone for the Ticket again would be a mistake. This version of the Zone plays newer, heavier music that WIOT largely does not, and takes listeners off of IOT one end of the demographic while XKR at least in theory takes listeners off at the older end, although XKR's music is increasingly redundant with IOT instead of playing more 70's classic rock like they did 10 years ago. and of course, the Ticket ain't what it was in 2012 either, it's really just an ESPN Radio translator. Nobody wants to hear fucking solo Mike Greenberg that much lol

The Zone was mostly so-so ratings in its heyday. It's been dumped and restored probably 4 times now. I don't know why Cumulus brings it back so much if they're going to flip it eventually each time.

I like the Zone in its current form too. IOT plays so much of what's on XKR already. IOT is more mainstream rock, while the Zone is an active/modern rock hybrid.

94.5's changed quite a bit playlist-wise compared to 10 years ago. They used to play Elton John, the Doobie Brothers and Janis Joplin regularly. Not so much anymore.

Oh totally, Marshall Tucker, Grand Funk (besides "We're an American Band"), Steely Dan, etc. Shit, I remember hearing Dylan's "Hurricane" on there during morning drive around like 2008. It changed when Andy Stuart took over and Grizzly, who's always been more associated with heavy music, was brought on. It was honestly probably the right move, the demographic for the older softer stuff is starting to die off and they did beat IOT for a minute, but now the stations sound too much alike. XKR's drive time is manned by IOT alumni.

I forgot about Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead too. I don't think I've heard Yes or Supertramp on there in a while either. "In the Air Tonight" is played occasionally and "The Chain" gets on played there too. Bill Michaels was on there quite a few years until he got fired last year. Put Aimee on there and you've got WIOT's roster from 2011 to 2014.

I've noticed more overlap between 93.5 and 94.5 lately. I've heard "Paradise City" and Juke Box Hero" recently on 93.5. 93.5 should stick with pop, soft rock and soul/R&B and 94.5 should stick with heavy guitar-driven rock.

$110K, wow that depreciated quite a bit. Dan Dudley should have bought it back for BAS?
The Catholic BG station on 89.7 could have used 106.5 to gain them more westward coverage as K-Love already has a Wauseon/Swantucky signal on 96.9FM.
