Re: WPAY
Hal Gore was the smartest guy in the 1520 Toledo story. He bought the station in the 1970's, and flipped it to paid religion. When he sold it, he held on to the 2 transmitter sites, collecting rent all of those years. Sadly, I think he passed away before cashing in on the real estate. Not sure about the Michigan site, but the site near the Turnpike in Perrysburg was worth some buck$.

Re: WPAY
the sad part about the story is that at one time there were plans to make it Toledo's strongest AM radio station by applying for a 10000 watt license, although directional of course. I can't think of any of the radio station that had transmitter sites in two different states, making it the most unique thing other than the dual-frequency station near Detroit

I heard this story many years ago. Would 10kw still have required separate day/night sites?WOHO wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 5:06 pmthe sad part about the story is that at one time there were plans to make it Toledo's strongest AM radio station by applying for a 10000 watt license, although directional of course. When WTTO/WTUU/WANR was located in the Commodore Perry Hotel, no matter where you were in the studios/offices, you were never more than a few steps from a bathroom. When they knocked the walls out of the hotel rooms on that floor to build the studios, they left all of the bathrooms in place. It was strange, but quite convenient."Wild Bill" Rimmelin was Sales Manager there. The legendary Bob Hamilton even worked at WTTO for a bit.

Re: WPAY
I think it was pretty sweet when they had all the Top 40's competing: WTTO, WOHO, WTOD (before Martz made'm country) WCWA/WTOL, but WSPD usually had the ratings crown except for one book when WTOD Top40 beat'em. WMGS 730 had a go of it before country and Jimmy Swigart.

Re: WPAY
Nothing so far.
It's telling that EMF has been unable to unload it while every other AM station they've had to buy (as a throwaway with an FM purchase) have quickly been disposed of. They seriously don't want AM signals, and presumably have had it on the block for a decade.

Re: WPAY
hmmm? Just weird they ditched K-love classics and put UFT talk back on for like a week and then now airing American Family radio. Unless they are possibly planning on selling the station to AFA. I've mentioned this before but why don't they swap with family radio? Move Family radio to 1520 and put AIR 1 on 90.3.

Re: WPAY
Or it's just EMF simply trying to make a little bit of money on a station they can't sell by leasing out programming. AFA must have begun sending EMF monthly checks to air their programming on WPAY, and money talks. Sometimes it swears a lot, too. It doesn't necessarily portend a sale... at least immediately.WZRC 1067 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2019 6:34 pmhmmm? EMF has swapped stations at times if it suits them best. But there also exists the possibility that Family Radio doesn't want 1520, and that they would consider it a downgrade from 90.3.
