Buckeye Country 103.7 CKY
Buckeye Country 103.7 CKY
This station isn't bad, I was happy when they decided to shift to classic country, way too much Bro country on the radio.
So here are my gripes with WCKY.
1. The name, Buckeye Country 103.7 CKY, that's such a mouthful. Why " Classic Country 103.7" and leave it at that.
2. Dump Bobby Bones
3. I'd like to hear a little more 70s and 80s country but go heavy on the 90s. No currents please.
4. Do occasional hour music blocks on the weekends. Say an hour of Johnny Cash, Mel Tillis, George Strait or the like.
I'd like to see them sound a little more like 106.7 out of Hicksville OH/Ft.Wayne IN and 940/98.9 Out of Lima Ohio.
Ok rant out.

You should just buy a Spotify subscription and build a playlist.

it's funny that they wound up going classic country considering back in 2008-9 I remember them running commercials on Buckeye Cable playing clips of Taylor Swift's early hit "Should've Said No". Turned out trying to directly go head to head with K100 wasn't such a great idea!

I actually like the Buckeye Country name as it's the name the station had prior to 2007.
I believe Bobby Bones probably only airs because of a contractual obligation.
I remember here on this site people used to say 103.7 when they were more hit-focused, were the new Tower 98.3 as to why the format still exists, so going Classic Country was a great move, and it fits in better with a rural audience, which CKY largely covers.

Most likely they're just airing iHeart's national classic country format. I wouldn't expect any kind of creative programming there. At least they dumped CMT Live, which when combined with Bobby Bones meant nearly half of a 24-hour broadcast day was currents instead of classics.
I imagine Bones is only there so iHeart can say they have clearance in Toledo. He sticks out like a sore thumb on an otherwise non-current station. Nevertheless, despite their tight playlist, better than Nash Icon, where the garbage current/recurrent stuff is peppered throughout all day long. At least with 103.7, classic fans know when NOT to listen.

Several iHeart stations around the county use this feed.

I wish the play list was a bit bigger but it's better then nothing. Obviously, this targets Wood, Seneca, and Hancock counties, so the format makes sense.

On a side note, a bit surprised they dropped all their Nascar racing coverage. Not saying all country music fans are Nascar fans or vice-versa, but there definitely is some overlap. Maybe that's more of a statement about Nascar as none of the other Toledo area stations, (no matter the format) picked up those broadcasts.

Nascar's popularity has been going steadily downhill for about 15 years now. I'm sure you can listen to races on one app or another anyway.
I used to hate when the races would get rained out and moved to Mondays, they'd get bumped to 1230 and preempt Jim Rome's show who I was a big fan of at the time.

Both MRN and PRN stream the races on their websites and apps. It kind of stinks as a fan going on a road trip and finding a station that carries races.
NASCAR initially aired on the former 1560 WTOD starting probably in the 90's. CKY was airing them around the same time as well when they weren't branded as a Toledo station. WSPD eventually started airing races and I'm guessing 1230 aired any races bumped to Mondays or worse, probably to avoid ticking off any listeners of Rush who listened to him every day.

Keep "Buckeye Country" and dump the "CKY". Call letters really only needed in the TOH. IMO unless they're iconic, ie WGAR or WYCD, not needed.
