Lipstick on the pig.
I really wish they'd just duplicate the WAKR format on 107.3.

I agree; lipstick on a pig.

This smells like a low budget placeholder format until Rubber City can divest the station.

PD has been named. No programming experience, no rock experience. Seven years with the company, last three as APD of the talk AM show.

Music Director, no programming experience.

Most likely playlist will come from DeMers, their consultant.

Rubber City always does low budget.

If they don't market the station, which they didn't with Jeny, then it'll fail. Jeny was bad, yes. But, there was zero marketing after it launched.

RCRG not known for spending $$$, especially TV.

JenY did have billboards before and just after launch, but I do not know for how long they were in place.

The format choice (Modern AC in a rust belt city) was moronic.

Rock is where an opportunity exists. WMMS is talk or live sports most of the time from 6a to 10p weekdays. WNCX gets monster numbers.

A hard edged alternative like the old 92.3 or straight up Active Rock would've been the best options, in my opinion.

Playlist this week includes song choices very similar to 98.7 Detroit. An improvement from JenY? Sure. A big improvement? Nope.

Billboards were up a short time after jeny launch. Once contract was up, no more. Never did TV. People can say what they want .... but TV is still king.

As a new (re-branded) format, and as a stand alone, to succeed they'll need to do TV, often. They'll combo sell with WONE... but 1073 is all alone in the CLE market. WONE not a player in CLE.

The new 1073 *should* fare much better. Insiders say jeny at one point barely a 1 share. (RCRG stopped subscribing to Nielsen when it was SJ)

IMO AC the hole since WDOK is now HAC, the way to go as far as $$$. A Breeze-like format. That said... the new 1073 FAR better than the jeny failure. OM/PD Jeff Lynn, and his buddy former WONE "PD" Craig Michaels, exit LONG overdue.

Didn't 107.3 try Smooth AC before, which is basically Soft AC with some smooth jazz tossed in?

Perhaps they should try 60s & 70s oldies. Don't laugh; that format is making a comeback in the rust belt. A 50,000 watt iHM station programs the format in Grand Rapids. A challenged signal in Milwaukee owned by Saga recently flipped to the format, too.

Can 107.3 move closer to Cleveland downgrading to a class A station?

Prolly not meaningfully unless some sort of obscure grandfathering provision can be cited. They are spaced too closely to 107.9 from Cleveland.

60s/70s oldies/classic hits would be what WMJI USED to be, which was pretty stellar late 90s. Ratings wise was up there with WCBS, KEARTH and KOOL/Phoenix. Gotta go the whole nine though, personalities, jingles, promotions, etc.

IMO a good move esp bc of those WMJI has left behind. They still have $$$ to spend. Nothing in CLE on the dial providing that unless you go east to Mentor, Gold 93.7. But, they tend to play a lot of deeper 60s. Can be a tune out. Station's presentation isn't great, ie imaging.

Yes, as "107.3 The Wave." WNWV-FM. I think it lasted until the mid 90's. Then things started to change in Cleveland on many dial slots.
