Format change in Marquette...

Post by MetalUpYourAss1973 » Mon Jul 06, 2020 10:08 pm

Looks like 94.1 is Soft Hits "The Breeze" while 99.5 is playing hard rock as "K-Rock"

I noticed this a few days ago.

So, is 99.5 still a simulcast of 93.1 with FB&HW in the morning, or are they doing their own thing?

Lots of changes in UP radio. Looks like MediaBrew has also launched 106.1 as soft oldies. 106.1 The Sound was formerly "The Gift". Website is here: 1061TheSound.com.

It's about time Marquette joins everybody in the 21st century...no joke. This should have happened 20 years ago, rather than the barrel full of oldies/classic rock/country formats they saturated the UP with.

Now let's get some REAL HD Radio like the big boys have. We need more toys.

That launched a few months ago. I've heard that translator a couple of times in Manistee!

DX-midAMerica is reporting parallel changes in Iron Mountain as well, with WIMK relaunching with active rock similar to 99.5 and WZNL flipping from "Star 94.3" Hot AC to "94.3 The Breeze."

Looks they are right, as the (now former) 93Rock / 94Rock Facebook page has been disabled!

It was online as recently as two days ago - and it did mention that listeners to 94.1 in Marquette should switch to 99.5.

The move makes sense, as 93.1's audience has likely been splintered by 107.3, 99.1, and 92.7.

I believe Sovereign is selling all of its stations in the central U.P.

Per Northpine.com:

http://www.northpine.com/blog/2020/07/0 ... d-of-sale/

Per Insideradio.com:

http://www.insideradio.com/free/amc-bol ... 9a72a.html

Apparently, some or all of the stations being sold will become part of the Radio Results Network umbrella. They already have Eagle 107.3 (classic rock) in their arsenal.

I wonder if they are going to dump FB&HW and go with a locally produced morning show.

Fingers crossed.

I don't have anything personal against any of these morning folks, but I just find them unfunny and I feel like they have nothing in common with us up here.

Anyway... as of 0630 WIMK still has FB&HW blathering on about their kids... again. Nobody cares guys, give it a rest.

I didn't hang out for a commercial break, but I suspect it's the same block of Public Service Announcements that they've been playing like clockwork for the last ten years. I wonder if the new owners will build an advertising department that actually sells ads to private businesses.

I'll tune in later and see what the playlist looks like, but I'm not holding out much hope that it will be worth listening to.
