I agree with an earlier remark regarding the voiceovers. They sound a little too sterile. They are using the same imaging voice as NewsNet. That gentleman sounds very good on news/talk radio and on certain TV advertisements. Not so much on music formatted FM radio. His personality (as expressed in the liner reads) reminds me a little of chalk. They could certainly do worse, but I think someone a little more upbeat should've been chosen.

A jingle package would sound good on this station, too.

At least they didn't choose the guy who does the incredibly tacky voiceovers on Midwest Communications' chain of Duke FM stations. Those are fatiguing.

Local cash giveaway is impressive. Stations in Detroit don't even give away that much cash these days.
That local cash giveaway is part of a Nationwide program.Same one that Jethro FM(West Michigan) participates in.

Does that VO guy sound like Charlie Ferguson(ex Northern Broadcasting GM).Seems like it does

It's the same guy the syndicator of U-M football and basketball radio broadcasts uses.

The signal is very strong. Was able to pick it up on my car radio in West Branch over this past weekend. That's 77 miles away from the transmitter.

I'm in Petoskey for a little getaway this weekend and was able to sample the dial.

As a Detroiter it was cool having country on 106.7 again. Lots of good stuff with strong recognition on most titles, even for someone that doesn't really listen to country.

Was also digging on 105.1. Great to hear Dave Doran again!

I plan on searching more. Had 1340 on most of the night for the Wolverine game. 104.7 was fighting with a country signal in downtown Petoskey.

Did I mention how gorgeous it is here?

The Country station was almost assuredly WYKX out of Escanaba.

See if you can pick up 101.3 Sault Ste. Marie (Rock) in your neck of the woods. :)

It's been a long time since I've been out this way (Alpena in 2005), so I had forgotten about the dual frequencies (93.5/96.7, 95.5/105.1) and how there's at least a signal struggling on every frequency. Lot of religious stuff here, too.

Although, when I opened up my Audacy app late last night, my "local" stations were all from Kansas City 😳 wonder what that was all about.

You have to get to the last range of hills before you get the Straits to get the SSM stations very well. CJQM 104.3 comes in best. CHAS 100.3 doesn't come in as well. The three stations that had the tower collapse, including WSUE 101.3, are still operating at low power. The Sugar Island Class C3s, WCMZ 98.3 and WTHN 102.3, come in better than the Class C1s on STA.

WSUE seemed to me to be at normal power both times I was up north this past summer, so I would guess they've fixed (or at least partially fixed) whatever adverse effects they had from the lightning strike. 99.5 and 105.5 were still on reduced power.
It's been my experience as well that the Sault stations typically don't come in very well around Petoskey. CJQM is the easiest Sault-area station to pick up when I visit family in the Gaylord area, but they're usually barely there and occasionally get blocked by WCZY and even WOMC during tropo. WSUE used to be common too before WMJZ moved to 101.5.

WSUE is on a different tower than the one that WYSS and WMKD shared before its collapse several years ago. However, WSUE's tower is very short (even shorter than the former WYSS/WMKD tower, which was about 300 feet tall).

Since all three are co-owned, I'm a little surprised they weren't on the same tower and I'm also surprised both towers are/were very short (WSUE, although a Class C1, has a 60dBu contour that's about five miles smaller than a full C2). If I were Sovereign, I would consider building a 500 or so foot tower and putting all three stations on that tower, even if one or more of the three would have to downgrade to C2 (which would still technically be an upgrade).

WYKX really gets out despite being a short-tower C1 (HAAT is only 344 feet)

I worked there in the '80s when it was just 1340 WPZ and Michigan's Beautiful North 96.3. Is it the same little two-story house on the hill? Trish still upstairs?

House looks a whole lot better these days. Trish did some remodeling since, well, 100 Strings and Percy Faith were gracing 96.3.

That WMBN Automation machine.... Probably no longer in the lobby. Did you work there when Ken remained the voice of that station from beyond the grave?
