91.5 / 91.7 Manistee

Post by cckadlec » Mon Nov 02, 2020 1:45 pm

I know that 91.7 in Manistee is licensed to run on 91.5 but moved to 91.7 for... whatever unknown reason a year or two ago. I recently was taking a radio bandscan at my Ludington site at the end of September and without really thinking, noted that I had the Manistee religious station on 91.5 along with usual Chicago and Green Bay.

However, I have realized in looking at my notes that, well, like I said, 91.5 has been running on 91.7 instead, so either my ears were wrong or they've changed again. Is this station still on its illegal 91.5 frequency? I believe it was at last check two months ago. I wouldn't have written such a note without being sure I was hearing a religious station and there's not a damn thing on 91.5 aside from that (if it were on 91.5 and not 91.7 still). It has me confused. I was a little rushed; perhaps I actually heard WICA but some content led me to think otherwise.

Does anyone know the story behind this translator? Did they abandon 91.5 to avoid WICA? I mean, I recall they WERE on 91.5 originally and moved to 91.7 out of the blue one day. I'm more curious for the fact they renewed their license two weeks before I reported hearing a religious station on 91.5, where they're SUPPOSED to be broadcasting.

It's still on 91.5. I don't remember them ever switching back to 91.7 (if they did go back to 91.7, it was very brief) after it moved to 91.5 in 2017 (not long after 91.9 WGCP moved to Harrietta). They were always on 91.7 prior to 2017

Thanks for the info. My Manistee bandscan on 5/27/18 had Manistee on 91.5 with 91.7 being WXPR and WQQA. But my scan in the same location on 5/26/19 had it on 91.7 with WICA and WJOH on 91.5.

I'm quite sure I heard WICA in my Ludington scan and in a rush - and I certainly was as it was cold and very, very windy - just assumed it was Manistee. This clears that up pretty well.
