Re: WJML
Not exactly a shining moment for what we once knew as "Super JML".
Re: WJML
When did they call it "Super JML"? Are you sure you're not thinking of "Super CFL" which used to be big in Northern Michigan before FM took off, and with formats other than Beautiful Music? Kris Erik Stevens from the Marquette Area had a H*** following in the UP when he was on WLS and WCFL.
Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

Re: WJML
I'd heard a jock or jingle using that phrase at some point. I know it wouldn't have stuck in my head from anywhere else, since I don't have any memories of Chicago radio other than WLS, or hearing Dick Biondi back in town on FM in the 80's.
Perhaps whomever used it was borrowing it from CFL. Nonetheless, I recall the top 40 sound of JML from going through the area on a number of vacations.

Re: WJML
WJML is still airing their regular programming
During times like these it's so much nicer to listen what is happening in this state than some very opinionated talk show host such as Chris Plante.(BTW I tend to be a bit on the conservative side).

Re: WJML
Remember that the founder of WJML, Mr. John Harrington, worked as a news person for CBS owned WBBM Chicago. So it seems like an appropriate legacy that they would simulcast the Michigan CBS Owned News station in Michigan. WJML was a CBS affiliate for many years.

Re: WJML
JML used the "Super JML" PAMS jingles in 1977 and 1978, having dropped them by the time I arrived in late 1979. By then, they had converted to JAM and the name of the package fails me forty years later, but it was the same one used by WLS. Those jingles lasted until we were switched to the hideous "whisper" jingles in early 1981, I believe.

Class Action was the JAM Package JML was using when I got there in Nov of 1979: http://www.jingles.com/jam/radioids/ClassAction.php
Re: WJML
That was truly a great jingle package, and gave JML a big city sound. The station had what I would call a "tight" sound, and the live jocks 24/7 were all great or at least very good. I'm remembering Jeff Peterson, Art Morrison, Gerry Noble, Rob Hazelton, among others. Perhaps an exception was whoever played the American Top 40 records in the wrong order on Sunday mornings for a few weeks in a row around 1981. I wish I could remember last week as well as I remember the 80s.jlpeterson1957 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 6:48 pm Class Action was the JAM Package JML was using when I got there in Nov of 1979: http://www.jingles.com/jam/radioids/ClassAction.php
The Big Question: Why did JML just let KHQ take over their target listeners? It seems like they just rolled over and gave up. Does anyone have any info on that?
