Format change at 101.5 Manistee (recreation of lost thread)
For those who haven't heard, 101.5 The Mitten is no more.
The station is now 101.5 The Eagle, with a format similar to the station of the same name in Gaylord.
(I believe organman95 first reported this news earlier today. That thread got wiped out due to the server move, which is explained here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=45609)

Correct. Appears to be owned by the same as Eagle in Gaylord. But not simulcast with Gaylord.
Main mailing address is Gaylord.

Wasn't 101.5 in Manistee co-owned with some stations in the Ludington area?

In a way, the station has gone full circle. The new format is probably not all that different from the former Kool 101.5.

It was co-owned with 94.9 WKZC, then-106.3 WKLA, and 1450 WKLA until a few years ago, when the owner of 94.1 WWKR and 97.7 WMLQ (the original WMTE-FM) bought the group. 101.5 was spun off due to ownership limits (it was silent for a while).MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Mon Nov 12, 2018 9:30 pmWasn't 101.5 in Manistee co-owned with some stations in the Ludington area?

The new format fills a large hole as there are no other stations of a similar format that have a reliable signal in most of its coverage area. I knew something was up as I saw an Eagle 101.5 car in Manistee a few weeks ago.

I can't, for the life of me, think of a single reason why anyone would want to purposefully insert themselves into the economic quagmire that is Manistee. Hell, even Duluth would be less cold and inhospitable.

I've lived in Manistee 5 years now. Not the most ideal place, but not terrible. I've been to worse towns.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Mon Nov 12, 2018 11:34 pmI can't, for the life of me, think of a single reason why anyone would want to purposefully insert themselves into the economic quagmire that is Manistee. Overall I like the new format. But putting 90s/early 2000s music into "Classic Hits"... Have I really reached that age bracket? LOL
Re: Format change at 101.5 Manistee (recreation of lost thread)
I think WHMI in Howell may have them beat in that regard. Their definition of "classic hits" includes "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, which came out in 2013.

WHMI knows better than to follow the unwritten rules of the unseen "radio format police". As for WMTE, I wish them luck, but everyone, and do mean everyone, who goes to Manistee, runs away screaming not long after. And why "The Eagle"? Gee, how original. One important thing about Manistee...nobody there likes "change" of any sort. Manistee is a simple, old fashioned place. 101.5 should simply be "WMTE"

Especially if they've lost their ass at Little River... LOL.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Wed Nov 14, 2018 9:55 amWHMI knows better than to follow the unwritten rules of the unseen "radio format police". If Manistee hates change, they must hate 101.5. How many format changes has that station had since they returned to the air (and even before they went off)?
And I know what you mean about WHMI - they're a local station for me and they are quite the breath of fresh air. Local AND live 24/7!
Re: Format change at 101.5 Manistee (recreation of lost thread)
For most of its history, 101.5 WMTE has been oldies/classic hits of some kind, including its entire run before its silent era. Since its return to the air in 2016, it was soft AC (moving from 97.7 WMLQ) and then the previous AAA format
Re: Format change at 101.5 Manistee (recreation of lost thread)
Maybe take WMTE dark and somehow upgrade WMJZ?Possibly put a class A station at 101.3 to serve the Traverse City area.Wise, probably not.Possible could be.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Mon Nov 12, 2018 11:34 pmI can't, for the life of me, think of a single reason why anyone would want to purposefully insert themselves into the economic quagmire that is Manistee. Re: Format change at 101.5 Manistee (recreation of lost thread)
In traverse city area. It’ll be a fun guess game trying to figure out which eagle is actually coming in. Lol
Re: Format change at 101.5 Manistee (recreation of lost thread)
So who owns that station now?
Re: Format change at 101.5 Manistee (recreation of lost thread)
Hey, not all of us here in Manistee are stuck in 1950. Next time you're in town, perhaps we could go have a coffee.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Wed Nov 14, 2018 9:55 amWHMI knows better than to follow the unwritten rules of the unseen "radio format police". In my opinion...operators who have dared to operate an FM station here have mostly missed the mark in terms of what our community would actually tune into and support with advertising.

I thought WMTE did well with the format used under thr Coast moniker. At least thats when i enjoyed it most. Stopped listening shortly after it was switched back to complete satellite-fed.WC8KCY wrote: ↑Fri Nov 16, 2018 1:37 amHey, not all of us here in Manistee are stuck in 1950. But as i said, i do enjoy the format now. A very nice and broad mix
