Re: Scripps Layoffs
Fox47, the dog station in Lansing, should've kept their agreement for news with Gray in the Lansing market. Going anchorless again when it launched it had no anchors and I think the weather comes from Fox17 unless they hired a met. I wonder if the layoffs will happen at Fox17 pretty soon. Scripps is going the Sinclair route with The National Desk with Scripps News formerly known as NEWSY which I watched from time to time before they shut it down on the Pay TV side by going OTA Scripps News is on WZPX .7.

Re: Scripps Layoffs
I am surprised they have not just rebranded Ch7 news in Detroit, Scripts Michigan News and spend 3 hours covering the whole state with bureaus in Lansing and Grand Rapids and use WXYZ on air staff across the whole state

Fox 17 in Grand Rapids enjoys decent ratings and revenue from its newscasts. Replace that with a cut and paste broadcast from Detroit, and they can kiss all of that good bye.I am surprised they have not just rebranded Ch7 news in Detroit, Scripts Michigan News and spend 3 hours covering the whole state with bureaus in Lansing and Grand Rapids and use WXYZ on air staff across the whole state

Look how well WNWO went with its South Bend-produced newscast, until poor ratings and budget cuts led to Sinclair replacing it with The National Desk.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 7:56 pmFox 17 in Grand Rapids enjoys decent ratings and revenue from its newscasts. You're probably right. I see they are hiring two more meteorologist now.TheWayItIs wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 7:01 pmThey hired their own met. He’s just based out of GR. Probably cheaper to have him work out of 17…than have to buy all that equipment for Lansing.

Re: Scripps Layoffs
FTV Live is reporting Scripps will be going anchorless in "small markets."
I presume that would include Lansing.
It's a terrible idea.
They're also experimenting with unanchored dayparts in big markets. I've seen a couple unanchored newscasts on channel 7 at 7PM on a Saturday and at 10 or 10:30AM on a Sunday.

Re: Scripps Layoffs
Ratings at Fox 47 in Lansing are horrible. So what do they do? More layoffs.
It’s a station that tries everything for a couple of years, sees no change, then throws another idea at the wall to see if it sticks.
I agree if Scripps can’t invest in local news in Lansing, then go back to having WILX produce their news. At least TV10 produced local news and had real time severe weather updates, not repurposed stories and taped weather segments from Detroit and Grand Rapids. It’s a Micky Mouse operation… even for the Lansing market. GM Gary should be the first one to go during any future layoffs.

Re: Scripps Layoffs
Yeah, Fox47 should go back with WILX to do the newscast for them Fox47 will always be a dog station in Lansing.

MW don't tell me, please don't tell me, that Scripps is rebooting the former Tribune Broadcasting's NEWSFIX for its small market stations

Re: Scripps Layoffs
After the Lions preseason game Friday I left it on Fox 47 and watched their news. That's some high school caliber operation right there. Everyone is "reading" at the viewer. The content is mostly random fluff pieces. And they obviously have zero ability to do breaking news as there was zero said about the tornado that hit Perry. I didn't even know it happened until 11:00 when I switched over to WILX.
I hope their advertisers know they are being ripped off when they are being sold advertising for "newscasts". It's good to see those ever increasing retransmission fees are being reinvested into the programming....

I don't think they do any sports coverage either, do they?Graham Wellington wrote: ↑Sun Aug 13, 2023 10:11 amAfter the Lions preseason game Friday I left it on Fox 47 and watched their news.
