I respect the work Ginger Zee has done to grow her career from Clio to New York. But giving students advice from her closest at ABC News sends the wrong message. We have far too many young people getting into this business thinking they can be the next social media star. They think journalism is fun and glamorous. Ginger is perpetuating this myth by showing off all her dresses and shoes.

You clearly have missed the dozens of times she talks about her thrifting and reuse of her clothes. It's been a large part of her push for more sustainability in the broadcast industry.

I don’t see that messaging ANYWHERE on her video. It’s again style over substance.

Ginger could have taped it literally anywhere other than in front of her massive closet and it would have sent a better message than clothes and shoes matter more than hard work.

Look, her former colleagues are VERY proud of her. She has worked hard to get to where she’s at in still a very male dominated meteorological industry. Going from Flint and Grand Rapids all the way to network is admirable and she is a role model.

But this was a misstep.

I think you’re off base with this one.
GZ is already an established broadcast meteorologist and show host. She uses her social media to highlight those items, as well as other interests she has. Many of these interests extend beyond her closet and she actually does a good job of connecting those interests with her well established broadcasting career.
Basically, she’s not trying to make it as an influencer. She’s already made it and while she’s there, she’s going to take the time to let others in on her interests.

Ginger Zee has made it being on GMA for over a decade or close to it yup, coming from Flint, then GR for working at Wood TV she interned at WXMI Fox17 as well, then working at the NBC O&O in the Windy City before GMA gig.
