Sinclair lying to investors

Post by sinklair » Sun May 21, 2023 4:15 am

In its newest corporate governance report, Sinclair makes several patently false statements meant to mislead potential investors:

https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/ ... nce-Report

It says it wants to “attract and retain the best employees”… that it’s committed to “diversity, community outreach, journalistic integrity and good governance”… and “doing what is right for our communities, our people”.

Sinclair says it holds the following beliefs:

“Supporting employees by ensuring a fair, ethical, and safe workplace where our employees can grow, develop and thrive.

Supporting diversity at all levels. Diversity has been fundamental from our very beginning, and we take pride in being an equal opportunity employer.

Sinclair believes an informed society is a strong society. We believe news consumers should have access to a broad range of ideas and perspectives, both on-air and online. To that end, our mission is to connect people with important, informational content, everywhere.”

If it truly believes the aforementioned goals, it wouldn’t have laid off thousands of employees, shuttering local newsrooms across the country, and forcing those stations to air a biased national newscast with little to no diversity of opinions.

Sinclair also continues to create uncertainty in its stock price by getting into needless squabbles with networks over declining retransmission dollars:

As Sinclair continues to drop local news and airs its National Desk, groups like ABC and CBS are just replacing local Sinclair-run CBS stations with a national feed… opposing Sinclair’s demands for reduced programming fees.

In the article, Sinclair CEO Chris Ripley says “This will be a big year of investment on a number of fronts,” Ripley said. Sinclair said it will be investing in news…

All lies aimed at diverting its efforts to centralize News production from DC/Baltimore. It didn’t work back in the late 90’s/early 2000s when it aired NewsCentral… and Sinclair continues to not learn from its own history when it devalues local news production.

Sinclair continues to also invest heavily into NextGen/ATSC 3.0 technology, despite not delivering on any new promised revenue streams in the 69 markets it is currently airing in:

Sinclair makes all these big promises and never delivers. Sounds just like the lies that led to the Bally Sports RSNs debacle.

I feel extremely bad for 25-66’s sakes account executives/marketing consultants who stand to lose big in all of this.

Even the newest sales person understands the relationship that a local newscast means for local ad revenue. By losing local news and replacing it with The National Desk and bad syndicated programming, it will be a nearly impossible task for them to make the ad revenue budgets they had before.

It was tough when 25-66 was airing a third-place newscast. Now without that, major categories like automotive and political won’t even look for ad buys in desired news dayparts (mornings for example).

I doubt that local politicians will buy TND knowing few of any local news viewers will watch — and if they do that the show purely caters to a conservative leaning audience — a deal breaker probably for any Democratic candidate in a liberal leaning area like Flint in what could be a very expensive presidential campaign year next year.

And with no ratings to show, national ad agencies won’t even look at 25-66 for ad placement.

All of this hurts the local account executives— not that 25-66’s Director of Declining Sales cares…

Literally no one disputes that FACT. If current management could make it an even lower rated station, they would. It is one of the worst run stations in one of the worst run markets in the nation. Believe that, brother!

Stink, it's hard to believe that anyone would put in the amount of work on a smear campaign that you do, knowing it means absolutely nothing to anyone but you.
You should seek help.
Seriously.

Soundchaser: take your own advice. If you think I’m going to change, you should seek help.

I’m not going anywhere. I plan to be here to celebrate the demise of Sinclair Broadcasting.

Until then, I’m going to let people know how bad of a company SBG is….

An interesting podcast where journalism professors equate the dumbing down of TV news to the same failed, short sided scaling back of local news by newspaper giant Gannett.

https://www.tspr.org/section/shop-talk/ ... of-gannett

They also brag about encouraging students to go to other station groups, not named Sinclair.

It’s clear that Sinclair’s bad reputation is known far and wide.. even outside the broadcasting industry.

Any hopes that Sinclair’s reorganization will lead to better decision making were dashed when the company said new Sinclair will keep all of its current company officers.
