12's Lack Of Closed Captioning

Post by smallwonder » Sat Apr 30, 2022 4:01 pm

With the massive losses, apparently the person in charge of closed captioning was laid off as well. 12's running a back to back low grade paid program for a spine doctor without closed captioning. This would never happen with the old owners. The channel looks worse than the Alpena ABC station.

Is it mandatory for commercials, including infomercials, to have closed captioning? I noticed some commercials have them and some don't.

Going to file a complaint to the FCC I know broadcasters can get fined for it by the FCC. I know Sinclair got fined $48 million dollars I know some thought it wasn't enough in 2017.

This is what happens when you have an absentee Chief engineer.

Most stations use an "off-site" company to provide closed captioning for locally-produced newscasts.
They listen to the newscast via a dial-up listen line and caption the newscast in real time.

Absent would be an improvement...could not screw things up that way.

So your answer is to try and get them fined verses calling and asking what the deal is? Seems a bit over the top, dramatic, and extremely counter productive for someone who clearly follows them like a hawk. Good God

I wouldn't file a complaint to The FCC for those that are passionate about it and have too time on their hands have at it.
