Ring of Honor Wrestling Taps Out

Post by sinklair » Thu Oct 28, 2021 8:56 am

It appears that Sinclair’s Ring of Honor wrestling promotion will soon be no more.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/100 ... nd-of-2021

No one believes it will be “reimagined” in 2022 with no wrestlers signed. ROH was yet another bad bet trying to compete with the likes of WWE, AEW, TNA and other better run brands. Sinclair does what it does best… underpay talent and put on a bargain basement production.

ROH was run by Joe Koff, who often appeared on air as ROH’s General Manager… think of him as a poor man’s Vince McMahon. Koff is also Sinclair’s Vice President of Training and Development… whatever the hell that is since no one at 25-66 gets any in-house training or development. Running “Sinclair University” must be some sort of brainwashing arm of the Corporate Death Star where you lose all ethics and business sense… a place where you can brainstorm money losing opportunities like running a wrestling promotion.

So what sets up Mr. Koff for running a wrestling promotion? Various sales roles at local TV stations and an executive management role at everyone’s favorite elevator music channel, Musak.

My main concern is now how are we going to fill time in our local newscasts now that we won’t have to air must-run “news” stories and interviews with wrestlers no one has ever heard of???

I agree; it is doomed unless Sinclair sells ROH's intellectual property to a party able and willing to relaunch the promotion.

MW: Sinclair would sell… if it can get a buyer to pay what Sinclair thinks it’s IP is worth (AKA its approach to every failed retrans negotiation)

I thought that ROH would've been paired with WOW in the fall of 2022 guess not. Sinclair was cheap running ROH why I didn't even watch the shows all that much.

A really good article from Sports Illustrated about the sequence of events leading to Ring of Honor’s demise and it’s likely future impact on the wrassling industry:

I have to say it’s conclusions are spot on. Koff and Sinclair completely botched ROH when it went cheap on production values, talent retention and lack of consistent air times. While other wrestling promotions are thriving (notably WWE and AEW), ROH died.

This is typical Sinclair…

https://www.sescoops.com/2021/10/bully- ... gqwdjU3_D4

They had the talent… they had the money to keep the talent… but then they lowball the talent and they walk away.

This is not limited to Ring of Honor. This is also how Sinclair runs its local TV stations. We’ve had so many good people leave over the years. We are a mid-market TV station and we pay less than you can make as a Walmart greeter.

The corporate greed is ridiculous.

Why would the chronic mismanagement end now that Sinclair is shutting down Ring of Honor wresting?

In its final shows, wrestlers are speaking out about how Sinclair corporate Death Star decisions doomed the franchise.

ROH looks like public access TV wrestling. Geez...have you looked at one of the referees??? He's so fat, I swear he's going to have a heart attack right there in the ring.

I'm surprised that ROH is still on the air I thought that ROH would have ended at the end of year in 2021. I still see it in the guide on TV.
