Inflation and News Salaries

Post by sinklair » Wed Jul 14, 2021 6:58 am

It’s ironic that the Sinclair corporate Death Star made 25-66 and the rest of its stations run a hit piece on the Biden Administration’s problem with inflation.

What Sinclair failed to mention is how it is making it worse for its own employees, through mass layoffs and wage freezes, making the rise in inflation take an even bigger toll on journalists who already are barely making above minimum wage.

The difference between here at Sinclair’s 25-66 and a real broadcasting company like ABC 12’s Gray TV is that Gray just gave employees an across the board pay increase of 2.5%. Now, that’s still below the inflation increase of 5.4%, but at least its something.

Sinclair also doesn’t mention how much money it is raking in as a result of the never ending ads promoting online gambling that is now legal in Michigan.

So as Sinclair continues to overstretch itself with purchases of regional sports networks and implementing NextGen TV, it is doing so on the backs of workers at its local TV stations.

I’ve said it before… everything Sinclair touches goes to sh*t.

Sinclair just released its quarterly earnings report… and lo and behold, the Corporate Death Star says it’s raking in the money as advertising revenue rebounds.

First, don’t let Chris the Ripper’s positive view of the economy get to Senior VP of “News” Scotty Livingston and the Sinclair one-sided must run national team, who continue to blame the start of the pandemic and the economic woes solely on Joe Biden.

Secondly, Sinclair is making its profits off the back of reporters, photographers, producers, directors, master control operators, etc. These hard working staff members have faced layoffs and wage freezes, all in the name of helping the company through a challenging time. (Let’s not forget the Sinclair haas been buying the former Fox regional sports nets and other OTT/digital properties during the time we were making sacrifices.)

Now that the company is doing better, shouldn’t the company reward us for helping the it get through hard times? (LOL. Never going to happen…)

But thanks to our fearless leader Jen for bringing in breakfast sandwiches the other day. Nice gesture. It just doesn’t pay the bills.

More on the widening pay gap as Sinclair mandates more pay freezes:

At a time when it’s been hard to find good talent, Sinclair is practically forcing people to leave because of its idiotic across the board stance on not permitting pay raises. So if you’re keeping track, Sinclair makes profits during a pandemic, goes on a buying spree expanding its national desk presence with a new morning and evening show, but when it comes to the local journalists who provide the material for its core business growth… nothing.
