1947 QSL For The Mysterious WWOK 1470 Flint

Post by Ben Zonia » Sun May 16, 2021 11:09 am

WWOK operated on 1470 kHz with 1000 watts, DA-1, at the present day WFNT 1470 location and towers, beginning circa 1947. The station was owned by the Drohlich Brothers, who had other broadcast interests. At some point, the station went off the air and the license was cancelled. 1470 was relicensed circa 1952 by Adelaide Carrell (not to be confused with Carroll Broadcasting, which owned it later and still exists in the Tawas City area), the widow of Charles L. Carrell of Mobile Radio Station fame. It used the same towers and facilities as WWOK, and had the call letters WCLC until 1953, when it was sold to Knorr Broadcasting, and became WKMF, and much later WFNT. There is no History Card available for WWOK. QSL letters are about the best records we have for WWOK.
