National Desk Primetime

Post by sinklair » Tue May 04, 2021 7:54 pm

It was a lousy idea for the mornings... so naturally Sinclair would try the same experiment in the evenings.

The National Desk has been a ratings flop... and no one at 25-66 likes it competing with our local morning newscasts. So now the corporate Death Star announces they’ll compete head to head with our local late evening news. Who does that? Only Sinclair. Even Nexstar realizes it shouldn’t compete against its local stations for what is already a declining late news audience.

And who do they put in charge? Mike Garber, it’s news director at Sinclair’s Salt Lake City station. Either you get promoted higher in the company for being universally disliked, or they are trying to avoid a lawsuit, or Garber has compromising photos of Scott Livingston. Really it could be any of the three.

CW7 has local news at 10PM that means no more Jeopardy, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, 25 Words Or Less although those are just second run EPs, and Millionaire repeats from its last season 2018-19 will end this fall. The National Desk gets 0.0 in the ratings only ones that watch is Sinclair HQ. Why don't the local TV stations demand The National Desk be canceled or make threats that they will not do newscasts when The National Desk is aired? Has any news reports been used by The National Desk for 25/66?

MasterB: that would require the corporate Death Star, SVP of News Scotty Livingston, or Regional News Director Lame Michaelsen to give a crap about its local stations. They simply don’t care. At least ratings are horrible, meaning the impact on local ratings may be minimal as well.

The stations don't have to take the whole 2 hours can take a half-hour, an hour, or the whole 2 hours.

Could stations air it after the late local news? Or after all the late night talk shows, for the non-FOX affiliates? Ah, never mind. They should shit can it now and save whatever money would be wasted.
