The purging of General Managers at poorly run Meredith-soon-to-be-Gray TV stations has begun… even as the ink on Friday’s FCC has just begun to dry.

Two notes of interest… WNEM GM Ken Frierson was not mentioned. That’s good news for WNEM since Ken knows the market snd staff. He (and News Director Jayne Hodak) seem to be doing a good job controlling some of the craziness that has hurt WNEM’s reputation in recent years. Hopefully, Gray sees that as well and keeps Ken around.
The other interesting development was former Gray/WJRT GM Pete Veto wasn’t named as a replacement. It was surprising that Gray gave up WJRT in the sale, but then kept Veto… who was universally despised by most in the Lapeer Road newsroom. I doubt he could be named as WNEM’s top spot since he knows too much about WJRT’s business model. But could Veto go to another Gray station like WOIO in Cleveland?
More announcements are expected before the December 1st transfer deadline.
Acceptable registrations in the queue through June 3 at 5:00p ET have now been activated. Enjoy! -M.W.

Meredith GM Purge
Re: Meredith GM Purge
Per a press release from Gray, Veto is heading down to Knoxville at Gray's WVLT. https://graytv.gcs-web.com/static-files ... 141e0696e1sinklair wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 3:36 pmThe purging of General Managers at poorly run Meredith-soon-to-be-Gray TV stations has begun… even as the ink on Friday’s FCC has just begun to dry.

When's the Meredith news purge? I can't see most of the staff from 5 being retained by Gray.

Re: Meredith GM Purge
If 5 intends on keeping Ken and Jayne, I don’t imagine there will be wholesale changes in WNEM’s newscasts.
I feel bad for Knoxville. If Veto runs that station like he ran WJRT, there will be lots of unhappy employees there.
