Will there ever be two anchors at 6pm on ZZM?

Post by sholmes031105 » Thu Jun 20, 2024 6:36 pm

Is this just life now, one anchor at 6 and 11? It has been what almost a year since 13OYS lost the 6pm anchor and still not a second.

Does no one want to work there or is their budget just that tight?

As usual the limited budget on three mile means that Juliet will continue to be the only anchor at 6pm and 11pm.

This was the plan when previous anchor Nick LaFave left.

I wonder when Juliet will be retiring, and kinda surprised she hasn't been cut from TEGNA as I would think her salary has to be up there.

It probably won't be too long before Juliet's current contract runs out, and that's probably when the decision will be made.

At this point WZZM is so much of a former shell of itself they should just close up shop. WOTV covers the entire area cable wise for ABC and you get a simulcast of 8 news.

WZZM right now reminds me of WSJV Fox 28 in South Bend's final days, because Quincy media pulled the plug in 2016 or 17.

A lot of stations are a former shell of themselves. Cord cutting is hurting revenue.

13's product is better than WWMT and no worse than WXMI. I prefer 13 to 17, in fact.
DTE Energy paid $752 million in dividends to its shareholders last fiscal year. Remember that the next time they ask the MPSC to approve rate hikes.

I don't think that comment is at all inappropriate, if that is what you're getting at.

Juliet was anchor when I was watching in the mid to late-90s. She joined the station in 1991 and has been there for 33 years (all while seemingly failing to age). She does a lot of other things on the side already, and true, she has got to be up there in a list of highest paid anchors in the market. If any station wanted to save money, they'd hope she retires to do so while she's still on top of her game. Of course, then they've also lost their best anchor at the same time. Given how the big media corporations carry themselves, that's almost the path you'd expect them to take, though I would highly doubt anyone would want to push her out the door.
