CW7 changing on 1-1-24?

Post by Big-D » Sat Dec 16, 2023 7:33 pm

CW7 ran a promo about changes happening on 1-1-24. Does anyone know what’s going on at the station? It was something about ARC, whatever that is.

I wonder if they'll put CW on WXSP then.

Probably. MyNetworkTV sucks.

I wonder what will become of the imaginary "CW 7," which is WWMT 3.2?

Hi smallwonder, MW & All,

Currently 41.x WOTV on RF17 provides:
41.1 ABC [HD 720p]
41.2 dabl
41.3 CHARGE!
41.4 Local weather radar and NOAA weather radio

dabl is also available in market on 64.6 WLLA on RF22.

I'll predict that 41.2 gets upgraded to HD from 480i. The current CW offering on WWMT 3.2 RF7 is 1080i HD.

Perhaps this will be the demise of having the radar/weather radio on a 24x7 broadcast? I recall from back in analog days, what is now WXSP had this content--so it's had a long run. Or Nexstar could just slice the 6MHz further to keep both dabl and weather.

Smallwonder knows from somewhere that CW will be the 41.2 virtual channel. The best I can find via search engines right now is this article that notes it'll be on a "digital multicast channel" (and thus not displacing ABC on 41.1): https://rbr.com/the-cw-comes-to-three-m ... roperties/ .

Perhaps someone knows if and where either of the two new national diginets will appear in our market? Both The365 (intended to compete with Bounce) and Outlaw (content similar to Grit) are supposed to launch in January. In other markets it's likely that one of these will replace Circle (which is going to streaming only with no OTA broadcasting)--but West Michigan has never had Circle OTA.

Cheers! ~~ Statmanmi

41.2 is currently DABL--which is also on 64.6 anyway, so nothing lost there. WOTV currently only has 1 HD, 2 SDs and weather radar. They have the bandwidth to add it without removing anything else.

This gives Nexstar 4 broadcast networks in GR--NBC, ABC, MyNetworkTV and now CW. That's media concentration!

I wonder what happens to WMMT's 10pm newscast once they lose CW.

Isn't Charge owned by Sinclair? I wonder if that will move to 3.2. With Sinclair also owning WWMT and NexStar owning CW and WOTV, it makes sense that these companies would want to pay themselves for being an affiliate rather than paying a competitor.

Personally, I would prefer seeing The Nest on 3.2 as YouTubeTV already carries Sinclair owned Charge, Comet and TBD. Not sure on what station is used as the source for these three networks,

CW7 is going independent as ARC The National Desk will air at 8PM and then daytime Jeopardy at 8:30PM which comes on at 5PM, The Kelly Clarkson Show at 9PM. WOTV DT2 largely airing syndication from WOTV, Wood TV & WXSP, Extra will be in access prime 7PM WOTV DT2 along with TMZ at 7:30PM that will get 3 airings now, Who The Bleep Is That at 3:30PM yes that is a title of a game show. Saw the schedule on TV Passport.

I think that Sinclair should've gotten better name than ARC which is a lame name for CW7 I think HWMI would've been better call letters Hello West Michigan the old slogan from WWMT in the late 80s early 90s. I think that WXSP should've become the new home of The CW in my opinion could've put MYNet TV in the late night hours or put it on one of the subchannels for the 2 hours and go back to whatever diginet after MYNet TV.
Go Pistons, Let's Go Redwings.
