TV Sports Directors In Flight!

Post by Trophyhead » Fri Nov 10, 2023 1:26 pm

Twitter is abuzz today, as Jason Hutton announced his move to Power Strength Training Systems last evening, following 17 years with FOX 17. No indication off the bat as to when he will actually conclude on-air work there.

West a bit on 96, Jamal Spencer notes he has accepted a Sports Anchor position with YourNewsNet, so he does 13 On Your Sidelines for the last time tonight and wraps his time with WZZM on Monday, Nov. 27. Jamal apparently let out word of his intentions on other platforms, previously.

The lure of the lights and billboards, or the late evening recap recordings for weekend use only have so much appeal in today's marketplace, best of luck to both gentlemen.

Never cared for Jamal at all, and I'm unfamiliar with Jason's work.

Jamal will be known for Michigan winning and beating MSU on air in front of The Big House just one problem MSU won on a block punt which all that Michigan needed was to get that 4TH & 1 and they would've won that game.

Indeed he will. Irrespective of that blunder, I never cared for his on-air style.

Or would Remi Monaghan move up to sports director? Seems that is usually the flow that a sports reporter becomes sports director. If I'm not mistaken, this area has had a female sports director (WOOD between Warren and Jack. Tracy was the woman's first name)

In Bret's case, doing the football reporting is a commitment of one night a week for 9 to about 13 weeks (depending on how local teams do in the post season). Sports director position would be five nights a week year round. Not the most family friendly job if one has kids (didn't one of the local stations have a sports director step down a few years ago because he wanted Friday nights off to be with family?)
