The station was still known as "104.5 Sunny FM" at the time. I believe it was summer 1996 when the Sunny FM moniker was ditched. If I remember correctly, 1996 was also the year the station began making major ratings gains in the Grand Rapids market, cracking a 6 share for the first time in 12+. By 1998, the station would take on a very Rhythmic lean.

The fact a station with so-so to downright lousy indoor reception in parts of the Grand Rapids urbanized area has earned mostly great ratings for the past 25 years is quite remarkable. The engineers have worked hard maximizing the signal over the years.
Soundgarden on a Top 40 station. I like it.

I knew Black Hole Sun received a lot of CHR airplay (including from 104.5), but I honestly don't remember "Fell on Black Days" receiving airplay on Sunny FM.
I thought Sunny FM sounded great from a music standpoint during this era.
Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.
