Jethro FM on 105.1 Kalamazoo?

Post by Michigan Media » Sat Jul 30, 2022 9:53 pm

This evening I noticed that Jethro FM is on 105.1 in Kalamazoo. When did this happen? 105.1 was the FM translator for WKPR 1440. WKPR is still airing religious programming. The programming for 105.1 must be originating from WAKV 980 in Otsego.

If this is permanent, this is a big, big upgrade programming wise for 105.1 FM!

Sure would be nice if Jethro could find a way to get a better translator in the immediate Grand Rapids area. 94.9's signal isn't nearly as reliable indoors as 92.9, 99.9 or 104.9 in southern Kent County.

Given the need to protect WMMQ, I see no path for any signal enhancement to the 94.9 translator.

Advertising a show on their Facebook yesterday, it mentions "on Jethro FM 94.9 99.5 1530AM in GR - 105.1FM 980AM 98.9/ Kalamazoo". Not a single other mention of 105.1 on there, so if they very recently switched, they sure didn't let people know or make a fuss over it.

WKPR Signs Off For Good

Post by ChrisWL1980 » Mon Sep 12, 2022 6:32 pm

And now WKPR itself is gone. I saw it reported silent on dx-midAMerica, and went to their Facebook page and apparently their last day on the air was on or around August 8.
With this and 102.9 going to BBN, WFUR-AM and its translator are now the only Kuiper stations left, and at this point I wouldn't be surprised if their days are also numbered.

92.9 FM is an excellent translator signal in the G.R. area. It's right up there with 104.9 in terms of indoor reception or maybe one small notch below. I think they'd have little difficulty LMA'ing it or selling it.
