JoJo Girard’s last day at WFGR

Post by Big-D » Tue Jan 10, 2023 7:50 am

Today is JoJo Girard’s last day at WFGR. I could go on a rant against corporate radio, but I would just be repeating what others have said in the past.

Southpaws airs Saturday nights at 11:00 on Global Community Radio Channel 1; weekly on Pacifica Radio affiliates KCEI-FM 90.1, Taos, NM; KZGM-FM 88.1, Cabool, MO; WMTB-LP 96.7, St. Petersburg, FL. Available on Spreaker, Apple Podcasts, & Pandora.

Just read on Facebook that this was the case. 98.7 is/was my wife's "listen" on her work commute. Best of luck to JoJo, nearly 40 years of morning jocking for one's career is the stuff of history, literally and figuratively.

That just plain sucks. Jo is a good guy and very talented.
If my math is correct (and it usually isn't), it's 34 years to the month that he's been doing morning radio at just 3 stations(?).... Sunny FM starting January 1989, Baltimore, then WFGR. That's a helluva run.

Jojo is a quality guy who put 100% of himself into his show. From what he told me he plans to stay in the area, which is great because at least we'll still be able to see him do standup comedy around the area.

great guy, longtime fan. on our way out the door there....i got ahold of him and told him that all and offered to help any way i could. didn't think we'd last as long as we did there anyway. i only drove over there to be a pain in the ass to the guy who called muskegon a "dead town full of blacks and a pain in the ass". my advice. anyone reading this.....ditch that shit industry and go to work for yourself.

I do (barely) remember his old morning show on 104.5 Sunny FM. I began listening his final year there, because that's when WGRD turned to shit music wise. I couldn't stand WGRD as a lukewarm Hot AC.

Great talent and was pleased to learn the reason he left WSNX was to join Mix 106.5 in Baltimore, where he enjoyed a very impressive run.

I wonder what 98.7 has in store for mornings? A return of the Bob & Tom show? Move Scott Winters there and pair him with someone else? Something completely new?

I would probably tune into terrestrial radio for the first time in years if that happened!

Seriously, Andy?

If so - that's great news!

That's a name from the past. I'm amazed he's still in Grand Rapids, and a shame they couldn't find him a spot given his listener base.

no, sorry MW. love the guy but this is me trolling. i had this whole big idea about a fake news story about a few certain cities moving counties in the most recent news dust up, but chose ethics and responsibility instead of free hits. hope you are well my friend

A simple reaction to Jojo's replacement is this, "A Captain in a Can" isn't going to shake out additional cume or numbers for 98.7.

Townsquare Media. Media not. Ownership

Oaktree Capital Management and The Madison Square Garden Company
No wonder.

It makes me wonder if Townsquare might kill off (or downgrade) WFGR and move Magic 104.9 to 98.7

With what format would they backfill 104.9 under such a scenario?

I could see 98.7 pivoting to classic rock.
