101.3 The Brew
101.3 The Brew
This station is just treading water. Time for this station to dump the Classic Rock Format!!! Utter Mess. I know this station serves as a flanker for B93!!! Alt Rock didn't work in Detroit but maybe it could work in Grand Rapids Thoughts?? I know certain people dont like the way the Alt Format has been but it's just the way it is right now!!!

And “just the way it is” is getting sinking ratings nationwide. I know there was a ton of speculation that iHeart would flip the Brew to Alt after flipping 106.7 in Detroit to Alt. It looks like iHeart really dodged a bullet in GR with that one! In my opinion, 94.5 fills the Alternative hole quite well and plays much better music than the nonstop Twenty One Pilots, Billie Eilish, and other lame pop that would be playing on an “Alt” station.
Maybe 101.3 could flip to something on the Rhythmic side of things.

EBrinks is an alt crazy dude. He was on my FB but I kicked him off. Yes, 94.5 does fill the alt niche perfectly.

Re: 101.3 The Brew
Good question. The same “Jack” format is on 96.5 WZOX in Kalamazoo, but it hasn’t been on for a full ratings period yet to have numbers to work with (Kzoo is a diary market, fall and spring ratings). Our humble host MW seems to like the format, so there is that to work with. Would it work in GR? Hmm... thoughts?weathernut wrote:How would a station like KDRB Des Moines fair in this market?

As in the exact same songs at the same time?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 6:24 am 101.3 is an abomination of a radio station. An absolute embarrassment and a microcosm of everything that is wrong with mega corporate radio. I do not know if I've ever seen a crappier rock playlist in a top 100 market. The sad thing is - iFart uses the exact same playlist on WHEB in Portsmouth, NH, WZRX in Lima, OH, WZZO in Allentown, PA and elsewhere.
I also love how the station's HD signal cuts in & out constantly less than 15 miles from the TX site.
Not all Variety Hits stations are created the same, but Jack FM in Kalamazoo is one of the better ones I've heard.
Re: 101.3 The Brew
GRD and 101.3 are trying to see who can play the most shitty late 90s-early 2000s songs including the awful covers of smooth criminal.and boys of Summer
Re: 101.3 The Brew
Spent this week in GR for work and going back tomorrow. Listened to LAV, GRD and the Brew. Despite the Brews slogan of something like “everything that rocks”, I’ve never heard a worse sounding rock station in my life. I literally heard on Thursday afternoon Marilyn Manson’s “Sweet dreams are made of this” seg into ZZ Top’s “Give me all your lovin’”. WTF.?? Also too much deep 80’s hair bands. Station needs to either reposition to a Classic Rock that really rocks format, the next generation of classic rock like WLLZ (but with a wider playlist) or go straight up active rock
GRD has its problems also. Why is Rush being played on there? Heard other 80’s classic rock on there also. Tighten up the playlist by getting rid of that crap and go 90’s, 2000’s and current active rock.
I will say I didn’t mind LAV...

Re: 101.3 The Brew
Here is my review of the current state of Rock Radio in Grand Rapids.
1. 94.5 WKLQ-Great Seeing the Call Letters Back on this Frequency but they should have gone Full Blown Alternative Rock or Straight Up Active Rock. Triple A is Hard Format to program. I will give them credit for being more adventurous station but will it be enough to generate advertising and ratings revenue.
2. 96.9 WLAV. Such A Heritage station. Still Strong despite the signal issues facing the station. Very well executed for a Classic Rock Station.
3. 97.9 WGRD. This station is so confusing like 101.3 The Brew. They need to get rid of the Classic Rock Crap!!! They need to be Straight Up New Active Rock with some 90's and Early 2000's. Enough of the Bon Jovi and Def Leppard Crap.
4. 101.3 WBFX. The Brew is adding more 90s and early 2000's but is struggling with being a Classic Rock Station. It's time to either blow it up and go Alternative Rock or go head to head with WGRD and Go New Active Rock.

Re: 101.3 The Brew
Ifart is not and never has been about maximizing ratings, or even revenue. Nope, it's about maximizing CONTROL over each radio station by a bunch of hyper-anal retentives in San Antonio. When given the choice between allowing some local input and live local jocks and getting great numbers, or having second-by second control, with every song taken from a heavily F***ed with master list, and voicetracked out-of-market jocks all saying the same thing, with about 45% of the ratings that could be gotten if localism was allowed, the hypermanaged business model wins every time at IFart. The San Antonio gang, right up to the big ego himself, Bob Pittman, is not and never will be about making great radio or even maximum bucks. It will be about the San Antonio bunch sitting around with their hand down their pants, getting off on all that CONTROL they can exercise. It's too bad the bankruptcy proceedings can't fix this part of IFart's broken business model.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 6:24 am 101.3 is an abomination of a radio station. Re: 101.3 The Brew
As for 94.5, I've heard a lot more ads lately about the same as lower powered stations like 100.5 the river. I think It'll stick it goes to a specific niche just like 100.5 does.
As for 101.3 and 97.9, both are utter garbage stations. 96.9 is okay in my book.

Re: 101.3 The Brew
While driving out of GR this afternoon, GRD played Jimi Hendrix’s Purple Haze. WTF are they playing a 50 year old classic rock song? So out of place...
