One theory about the eclipse we had recently, and the one seven years ago is that when combine to make an X through the United States. The people who look at it that way would try to have you believe that rapture, UFO invasion, WW3, and similar scenarios are coming.
The largest city in the middle of that X (Carbondale, Illinois) took scientific, artistic, and metaphysical advantage of this unique occurrence. In that atmosphere, I'm sure that some people had some extreme thoughts about existence.
