Does Michigan deserve the toxic waste from OHIO??

Post by km1125 » Sun Feb 26, 2023 2:15 pm

Looks like we were the intended dumping ground for a lot of the mess from the Ohio train derailment!

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/ ... 944101007/
The shipments, originally announced by Ohio officials, included the disposal of contaminated water to a site in Romulus and contaminated soil waste to a site in Van Buren Township. The EPA manages disposal of the waste and coordinated with Ohio officials to transport it to Michigan, according to a news release by the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.
Now, it could be a good thing, IF the reason it's being done is that Ohio lacks the skills and equipment to be able to handle this kind of stuff, and the folks here make a lot of money from their mess. It would surprise me if they didn't have the capability to handle the stuff, especially, well, with Cleveland and all that. If we can make money and it doesn't put OUR residents at risk, then maybe it's A.O.K. Doesn't sound like there was any coordination on the "safety" aspect of it though, even coming from the EPA.

It was posted on the original derailment thread a full day before either of you...

And it’s literally a nothing-burger. All kinds of harmful things are transported from across the country to the landfill by Willow Run Airport. They are incinerated first.

I agree, with one exception:
The transport of said waste can be a risky proposition, especially during wintry weather.

If only you knew how to start or title a thread that makes it meaningful to readers, it might have been effective.

I just figured your thread was whining about somebody in Ohio hiring a Spartan, or some Spartan living in Ohio.

No Michigan shouldn't take Ohio's toxic waste it's their problem they should deal with it in my opinion. Why I don't trust the government US citizens have to fend for ourselves as the government isn't going to do it.

Sorry Matt. Got to agree with km1125.

You gotta admit your "original" post was titled like it had something to do with the Buckeyes. Anyone not interested in sports probably wouldn't open it. Work on that in future postings.

Looks like the folks in Putnam Co. Indiana were blindsided. They are getting the toxic waste and residents are angry.

It seems shipments of the toxic waste from East Palestine to Putnam County, IN has been temporarily halted for testing.

If they send us their toxic waste, then we truck them our garbage. Fair trade.
