$1.5B for four plants?

Post by km1125 » Sat Dec 25, 2021 3:39 pm

Just saw an article posted on Fox2's website saying:

"Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will be in Detroit Monday to sign new economic development legislation into law that outlines nearly $1.5 billion in spending intended to boost business investment in the state."
https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/whitme ... ll-signing

Anyone know what these plants or "projects" are? Seems like a ton of money at around $400M per plant.

The last plant Ford built was closer to $650 million.

I know a couple of battery plants that were slated to be built on the west side of the state.

Tax deferments (TIF's) happen all the time by government. If these plants create jobs, the as overall gain is worth the investment. Alabama can't get every factory....

For a governor so concern about the the ecosystem with the Enbridge line5, these batteries destroy our planet and eco system.

She is for sure getting a kick back from auto and not Oil companies.

Good point. A key material used in the manufacture of lithium ion batteries (nickel) is mined from lands that for centuries were rain forest.

Yet, if a plant has an accident in a former corn field, it doesn't take out 2/5 of all the fresh water in the world.

So why does she oppose the new line in a tunnel?

Because she has seen Embridges track record for maintenance.

That makes no sense. They are willing to upgrade and that is being opposed.

That like a someone wanting to build a new house but neighbor opposing it because their old house needed maintenance.

The problem isn't the house, it's where they want to put it and who is building it. Ask people in Kalamazoo how impressed they are with this company.
