The "X" on the driver's license

Post by km1125 » Thu Nov 04, 2021 10:26 am

Well, so much for SCIENCE!!

Now you can just have an "X" instead of an "M" or an "F" for your sex designation on your Michigan Driver's license.

https://www.mlive.com/news/2020/01/mich ... ption.html

I wouldn't have a problem with this if it was limited to that ~0.01% of folks who actually have a physical issue with the XX/XY chromosomes, or even an additional field to spell out how you "Identify", but it's just "nuts" that anybody can petition to have that changed to whatever they prefer. Maybe they should require women to also get their license reissues whenever they dye their hair to make sure that field is "current" and "correct" too.

Heck, if we add that additional field, it would be easier for folks like cops or medical facilities to identify those folks who really have mental instability issues, and perhaps get them treated appropriately!

While I personally could care less whether someone has an M, F, or X on his/her/it's drivers license, the question I have is this: Does such a designation effectively create a protected class for someone's transgender status? Under current federal law, you can not discriminate based on one's gender, but there is no such protection for transgender.

This seems like a great priority when the SOS is struggling to provide core services to Michigan residents.

What's more pathetic: harassing an old man who is paying to do a radio show or supporting a grifter like Trump?

The article was written before the pandemic (1/6/20) so the pandemic may have derailed this.

The thing I find interesting is that Indiana and Arkansas offer this already. That surprises me.

I saw mentions on two recent local "news", so I decided to look it up. I may have just selected an older article, but I think the change was enacted recently.

Glad to see the state has its priorities straight. Working through that backlog of appointments sounds like a right wing nut job priority.

Why not just use XX and XY?

Why not just eliminate the field entirely?

That's actually really funny

Yes, and if other fools in this thread had watched my video in the thread I started yesterday, they would see that Jocelyn explained that the pandemic delayed them for a year and a half.

They/them, non-binary and proud.

Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
