Why, you ask?
I live (barely) in the new 12th district. Guess who decided today to run for reelection in the 12th? (Yup, Rashida Tlaib).
Dammit, Brenda Lawrence...I wish you would've run again!
I can only hope R.T. will face stiff primary competition.

I think that may be correct, km1125. I am no fan of his, either. He might not be quite as bad as Tlaib, though.

It's too bad we don't have Tlaib. She would be great.
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

On November 14, 2019, the House Ethics Committee announced that it was investigating whether Tlaib used congressional campaign money for personal expenses in violation of House rules.[33] In August 2020 the committee directed Tlaib to reimburse her campaign $10,800, stating that Tlaib has an "obligation to act in accordance with the strict technical requirements of federal campaign laws and regulations, including the restrictions on personal use of campaign funds".[34][35]
Democratic Party
Tlaib, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, aligns politically with the left wing of the Democratic Party.[78][3]
Domestic policy
She supports domestic reforms, including Medicare for All and a $18 to $20 hourly minimum wage.[79][80] On November 5, 2021, Tlaib was one of six House Democrats to break with their party and vote against the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act because it was decoupled from the social safety net provisions in the Build Back Better Act.[81][82]
Immigration
Tlaib was an early supporter of the movement to abolish the Immigration Customs Enforcement agency.[78] In June 2019 she was one of four Democratic representatives to vote against the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance and Security at the Southern Border Act, a $4.5 billion border funding bill that required Customs and Border Protection enact health standards for individuals in custody such as forming standards for individuals for "medical emergencies; nutrition, hygiene, and facilities; and personnel training."[83][84]
Law enforcement
Tlaib has called for the abolition of the police and incarceration.[85] She has called American policing "inherently and intentionally racist", saying, "No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can't be reformed."[86] Detroit police chief James Craig called Tlaib's comments "disgusting".[87]
Abortion
Tlaib supports abortion rights and has criticized what she called "white men trying to force women to not have the right to seek legal abortions".[88][89] She was endorsed by abortion rights organization NARAL.[90]

Supporting the rights of Palestine and a two state solution is automatically seen as anti Semitism. If you believe Palestine has a right to exist, it automatically makes you racist in the minds of pro Zionist extremists. Not buying that “kiss the ring” mindset.Matt wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 7:45 amhttps://www.foxnews.com/politics/rashid ... oric-crazyMotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 8:40 pmSo, I see someone who was being unfairly targeted for being a Berniecrat. Re: For all you rubes that thought an "independent" commission was needed
A couple more facts about the new 12th district:
- Per Politico, it leans heavily Democrat. FiveThirtyEight agrees. Politico shows a 70 - 74% D affiliation whereas FiveThirtyEight shows a +44% advantage for the Dems.
- Not only does the new 12th include Southfield Township (Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms, Franklin), it also includes Livonia!
So, there is a very strong possibility that Rashida Tlaib will be the congressperson representing Livonia starting next year.
Overall, the new Congressional map is certainly better than the old, heavily gerrymandered one that will no longer be in effect, but the example I cite here is certainly one where things could've been handled better.

When things are drawn more fairly you get this kind of thing. Republicans would have salamandered Livonia and the other places somehow absent the commission.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 7:07 amA couple more facts about the new 12th district:

Wiggling and squiggling your way to specific groups of people most certainly doesn’t. Geometric would be fairer. We should also note that Livonia and the places north of Southfield are considerably bluer than they used to be.Matt wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 6:17 amGeometric does not equal fair.Rate This wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 12:35 amWhen things are drawn more fairly you get this kind of thing. Re: For all you rubes that thought an "independent" commission was needed
Word on the street is that remnants of the old McNamara machine living in and around Livonia are preparing someone that will primary Ms. Tlaib.
New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.
