Finally, some leadership from the Federal Government. We are out of vaccine in our area, it's all been allotted.
WASHINGTON — In a sharp break with the Trump administration, President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. intends to release nearly all available doses of the coronavirus vaccine soon after he is inaugurated, rather than hold back millions of vials to guarantee second doses will be available.

The decision is part of an aggressive effort to “to ensure the Americans who need it most get it as soon as possible,” the Biden transition team said on Friday. The vaccination plan, to be formally unveiled next week, also will include federally run vaccination sites in places like high school gyms and sports stadiums, and mobile units to reach high-risk populations.

The president-elect has vowed to get “at least 100 million Covid vaccine shots into the arms of the American people” during his first 100 days in office.

The decision to release the vast majority of vaccine doses set off a sharp debate among public health experts. The two vaccines that have received emergency approval each require two doses, and the Trump administration has so far been holding back about half of its supply to ensure that booster doses will be available for those already inoculated.
This isn't leadership. In fact, I'd argue that it is a very foolish idea and irresponsible. If the efficacy of the vaccine is contingent on getting both doses in the allotted time, then this is essentially a pull and pray strategy.

Voting for Trump is dumber than playing Russian Roulette with fully loaded chambers.

Well I think it's time to try another type of Foolish for a while.

I thought you were a follow the science guy? Or is that only applicable depending on which political party is dumping the science to look good politically? The science is very clear - two shots. Giving out the second doses to others will dramatically increase the number of people that don't follow through to get their second dose. It wasn't the politicians that came up with needing two doses and how to best accomplish that. It was doctors.

Hackel pulling no punches and is really angry with the governor for this week's premature announcement - at least in terms of the preparedness level of the state in fulfilling the demand of what was opened on Wednesday.

This is a disaster. Whitmer needs to do better.

Yea, this doesn't make any sense.
We have over 750,000 doses delivered to the state, and over 500,000 on the shelf. How does Macomb County have ZERO to give out right now??? Is there any state-level tracking on the distribution of vaccine doses?

I was on a call this morning with Gary Peters the incoming Homeland Security chairperson in the Senate.

Here are a couple of insights:

Nursing homes get their vaccine from Walgreens and CVS through a Federal contract. Those companies are not getting the job done and it sounds rather fubar. To be clear this was a contract that the Trump administration established to the objection of the CDC.

Health departments which channel through the state of Michigan have already completed most of their 1A and are into 1B.

Hospitals in Michigan have had mixed results but have been doing okay.

The federal government has been announcing what vaccine will be released the night before it ships from the warehouse. this gives the states very little opportunity to coordinate with all of the counties and hospitals.

EMT workers are at 50% vaccination. The number of EMT workers who don't want the vaccine is higher than average.
