Trump should indeed wear a mask when he's in public surrounded by people - especially strangers - in close proximity. While I'm glad he wore a mask on portions of the tour, he probably should've worn it throughout the entire tour.

Good masks will help in both directions. There is chart that I saw in FB that goes something like this:

You with homemade mask > Others unmasked = 88% Effective
Others unmasked > You with homemade mask = 7% Effective
Others homemade mask <> You homemade mask = 95% Effective

If you prevent the spray of particles from getting in the air, it stops the spread of the virus. If any do escape they fall close by as velocity is reduced.

Once in the air, the mask isn't that effective.

I think the missing info in those scenarios is that the left column people are Covid positive, the right column people are Covid negative. Not politically left or right of course.

So if I'm Covid positive and wearing a homemade mask around others that are unmasked, the chances of me spreading it are reduced by 88%. And so forth.

The most effective masks are the N95 masks which should be reserved tor health care workers. Those come in different sizes and health care workers have to go through a fitting process every year to ensure they have the right size. I could not use an N95 mask because of my beard so I had to go though training every year to be certified to wear a PAPR, the big hooded jobs. The homemade ones are better than nothing.
