I know this is TV news, not newspaper sports, but in today's Freep,
Anthony Fenech referred to Minnesota Twins great Tony Oliva as "Tony Olivo." I know Fenech's a young fella (Oliva,a .304 lifetime hitter from 1962-76,is 80,so Fenech, unlike Yours Truly, wasn't alive for Oliva's career),but as a sports reporter, you'd think he'd have done some research on Oliva's Hall-Of-Fame worthy career so he could get the great Cuban expatriate's name right.Such are all forms of media in 2019 .
Oliveo doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame. His career was only that long because the AL brought in the stupid DH gimmick. And the Twins teams he was on always choked in the playoffs because most of their key players besides Killebrew and Jim Kaat didn't have the necessary character and intelligence.

EnbyCee,Oliva's three A.L .batting crowns (1964,1965-Oliva's the only major leaguer to win batting titles in his first two full MLB seasons-and 1971 )preceded the DH,plus knee problems severely shortened his career ala another Twins great, the late Kirby Puckett, who'd have been 59 today .Oliva was also a decent outfielder,if not a Gold Glover, plus a .304 lifetime hitter in 13 full seasons. His seemingly meager power stats can be explained by his pitching dominant era. All in all ,a man who to me and many others,is a Cooperstown-worthy player .
Well, the people who have a vote have forgotten more about baseball than you'll ever know and obviously they disagree. Too bad.

Harold Baines and Lou Whitaker also do not belong in the Hall of Fame, for the same reasons as Olivea. Frankie Frisch clearly does. If you can't figure out why, refer to Al Campanis' great remarks on Nightline 32 years ago.

Canadians are no good at any sport besides hockey. And even that is debateable, no team from Soviet Canuckistan has won the Stanley Cup in 26 years.
