Yet another epic channel 7 weather FAIL
Zero mention of the FLASH flood warning covering portions of the east side.
2, 4, 50 and 62 have info on screen right now.
Zero info on screen on 7, and zero mention during what appeared to be a pre-recorded 12:42p weathercast (no radar image or current conditions were given).
There also is zero info on screen on WMYD.
Evidently, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing at Broadcast House, or their software is just flat out unreliable.

Their app pushed it out however. You really should consider something that tells you this stuff. I got my standard 4 alerts despite it being well east of me.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 12:46 pmZero mention of the FLASH flood warning covering portions of the east side.

Alexa sends a message to my phone whenever any weather watch, advisory, or warning is issued for my home location.
I'm not under a flash flood warning but am under my third flood advisory since last night.

So if you’re in the desert and have a dry riverbed next to you then you need to worry about a flash flood. If you’re in your living room that’s extremely unlikely. If you’re out in it then those app alerts are where it’s at. Warning info on your TV about it isn’t horribly useful since being in your house isn’t likely dangerous in that situation. Maybe there are a few houses in a flood plain that would be a problem but by and large we are talking roads and streets acting like riverbeds.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 12:50 pmAlexa sends a message to my phone whenever any weather watch, advisory, or warning is issued for my home location.

Marissa finally mentioned the flash flood warning just now. About twenty minutes after it was first issued. Still no warning icon on screen.

Re: Yet another epic channel 7 weather FAIL
That's not necessarily true. People live in flood prone areas locally. Ever see the news coverage of Dearborn Heights, the lower east side of Detroit, or Grosse Pointe Park?Rate This wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 12:53 pmSo if you’re in the desert and have a dry riverbed next to you then you need to worry about a flash flood. People commute for school, work or business. Conditions along their route of travel may be completely different than at home. It is useful to get such info BEFORE they hit the road.
Edit: warning map finally showed up on 7 at 1PM. The polygon outline is missing but the other info is there. The icon disappeared after being displayed for about a minute.

Re: Yet another epic channel 7 weather FAIL
I still contend the number of people who are relying solely on the station to tell them about it is microscopic and so this criticism is rather overstated.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 12:55 pmMarissa finally mentioned the flash flood warning just now. You make it sound like it’s 1995 and throngs of people are hitting their TV sets ala the phone booth scene in airplane to find out what’s going on. It’s just no longer the case. We are 10-15 years from this entire scenario being something you read about and maybe kids ask about “what they used to do when the weather got bad”.

It is true that local newscast viewership is low as a percentage of the total population. 7 (and others) tout their early weather warning prowess. In 7's case, it is arguably false advertising based on recent performance.

And the percentage of those viewers connected 6 ways to Sunday with repetitive alerts coming at them on their phones is likely in the high 90% range.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 1:02 pmIt is true that local newscast viewership is low as a percentage of the total population.
Your complaint may literally apply to 13 people.

I doubt it. If that were true, all area TV stations would get out of the weather forecasting & alerting business.

Re: Yet another epic channel 7 weather FAIL
No… I’m not saying weather isn’t useful. I’m saying most of the population gets alerts on their phones for that stuff through various apps. So therefore the number of people who didn’t know because an alert didn’t appear on their tv screen is blunted and microscopic. We are in the era of instant information now. Your interpretation is outdated.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 1:05 pmI doubt it. If that were true, all area TV stations would get out of the weather forecasting & alerting business.
We are probably sooner or later going to get weather alerts the way we get amber alerts. They won’t kill off the weatherman because of it.

7 First Alert Weather should change its brand identity to 7 Unalert Weather.
