The entirety of my hatred for WLLZ stems from their dishonesty.
They came on the scene promising a "New generation of classic rock" then proceeded to play the same worn out shit WCSX plays.
I dont know if they still use that slogan or not but apparently they are still advertising on TV as heavier than they really are.
Be honest and pick a lane because their bullshit now of Journey or Bryan Adams followed by Metallica is just a mess and incredibly frustrating.
There is a TON of great rock and roll from the 80's and 90's to choose from. How many times do we need to hear "Another One Bites the Dust"?

Toto was 1978. That's 46 years.

Exactly.
Oldies/classic rock stations were already playing early 70s music in 1990.

There are a few Aerosmith songs I like after 1976, even "Lightning Strikes" was cool, just I love "Get Your Wings" and Toys In The Attic", Aerosmith at their zenith in my opinion...
I will scale back, "Draw The Line" was good, then the band fell into their "Party Years"...lol

I have to admit, and no shame...I still love Boston's debut album, not a bad track on it....one of the greatest lines is from the song "More Than A Feeling"

Get Your Wings is a top shelf album. Not a bad song on it. Seasons of Wither sounds pretty damn good right about now.

I've looked at a handful of hourly music logs for them over the past few days.

I like the song choices!

The song category composition in a typical hour is similar to WRIF (with perhaps a tiny bit less airtime devoted to pre-Seattle material than WRIF), but there is certainly more variety in the individual song and artist choices than what WRIF offers.

Late to this, but I streamed the Planet yesterday while working. Not one to give props to Audacy, but they’ve got a good station here. iHeart should take notes.

89X - shitty signal and all - had very competitive ratings against WRIF for five or six straight years until the morning show bolted.

There are a lot of quality songs from the above era WRIF seldom or never plays.

Excellent points regarding Alt 98.7. (You forgot to mention cancelling Lazlo's lame afternoon gabfest, though.)

I am essentially proposing a Rock version of The Bounce with regard to musical era.

What did you think of 97.1 Extreme Radio?

I never had a chance to actually hear the station during that era since it didn't offer a live stream.

I believe it was modeled after KXTE in Las Vegas at the time, which eventually became available via streaming, and I very much liked that station.

By the time I moved to SE Michigan, 97.1 locally had become "FM Talk."

I've never listened to WLLZ. But I too hate radio stations pretending to be things they aren't. What really pisses me off right now is how WOMC advertises itself as a "70s 80s and 90s" station. When they really mostly play 80s and 90s, with just a little bit of 70s (and also maybe 3 songs from the 00s and 60s). There's only like 60 songs from the 70s that WOMC plays, and maybe hundreds of 80s and 90s songs.

I remember in the late-00s when both WOMC and WNIC were great stations. WOMC had a great library of songs from the 70s and 80s, and a decent catalog of 60s songs. While WNIC had "The best variety of yesterday and today" with "today" being the '00s (the last truly good decade for music), with a great selection of music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and the occasional 60s song thrown in. I used to listen to WNIC so much back in the day, just hearing the name of the weatherman-Chuck Gaidica-makes me nostalgic.

They should just run the harder and heavier stuff which I think could work in
Detroit with the tradition of giving the world Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, The MC 5, and Iggy Pop and The Stooges.

Iggy Pop? Isn't he the guy who voiced Rumsfeld in Lil' Bush? Anyone remember that show?

As you know CR target is 45+. If 18 in 1980, 62yrs old, If 18 1989, 53yrs old, 18 in 1995, 47 yrs old.

80s 70%
90s 15% (primarily 1990-1996)

I am not so sure 45+ is the focus for sales purposes, but I agree a majority of the audience is 45+.
