Morons at channel 7 news

Post by MWmetalhead » Fri Nov 17, 2023 6:19 am

Channel 7 thinks the Wolverine Amtrak train, which travels from Pontiac to Chicago, derailed in "New Buffalo, New York."

Un-fucking-believable. This idiotic error not only appeared in Alicia's script, it also appeared within the chyron.

New Buffalo is located on the Michigan side of the MI / IN border, of course.

I guess they never rode that train - it's one of the stops. Alicia didn't catch it?

One of my hamster friends lives in New Buffalo, another reason to get your license - you learn geography.
Ask not what your country can do FOR you; ask what they are about to do TO YOU!!

I heard what sounded like a little bit of hesitation in her voice, but she did not have the presence of mind to correct the error on the fly.

Here is channel 4's vastly superior report:

To their credit they did fix it for later reports… maybe she said something after all. The information in the report on their website is actually more specific than what 4 has.

Was it Bill Bonds who went "off the handle" on a rant when he started to read some crap script that he was handed?

It was a poorly written script, but Bonds was probably drunk hence the unhinged rant.

Most people have no clue about railroads.

The WNDU reporter doing their live shot called the lead locomotive the first car.

Trains can run at 110mph out there. Luckily nobody was seriously hurt.

Near the end of their morning newscast on channel 7, a quick recap of headlines is given (complete with a music bed). During that segment, which aired near 6:56a, the location was stated correctly.

Oh yeah, that is a locomotive. Good eye.

Amtrak hit a full sized tow truck, which caught on fire.
The engineer and 10 passengers had minor injuries.

Trains are my other hobby. The only real question I have is was it on a crossing or somewhere in the gauge down the tracks?

Does Amtrak run at 110mph?? What speed does the Acela line run at?

They do west of Kalamazoo. The Acela is 150.

A police officer was there and recorded the entire impact on dash cam. The tow truck was across the roadway between the gates.
