Jammin' Oldies

Post by Steve79 » Thu May 16, 2024 7:43 am

I know we had 105.1 the groove back more than 24 years ago (Yikes, I'm getting old) and yes it had its quirks with a tight playlist and it became stale. However that being said, If done correctly, could this format work now? I think it would be a good thing for 105.9 FM and compliment 105.1 WMGC nicely. 105.9 THE GROOVE "Groovin' Detroit". :smokin

In Cleveland, late 90s, AMFM tried Jammin' Oldies, going up against powerhouse oldies WMJI. Flipped less than 18 months later. Oldies then different than "Classic Hits" now, much of which is classic rock. So, I think a Jammin Oldies can do well, wouldn't be sharing (much) with WOMC.

Urban One has Classix 107.9 in Philly. They should have flipped 107.5 WGPR to that while they were still in Detroit.

As much as I would love the return of The Groove to Detroit, I don’t think it would do good in the ratings 24years later. The best option is the internet with literally hundreds of Classic Soul stations to stream.

Not on a full market FM. Maybe a translator or throwaway AM for that coveted 0.2 share. It would be better than some of what is on these signals currently.

The Beasley translator on 99.1 in Shelby Township would be a great choice for a Classic Soul format. The current podcast crap is a waste. The other Beasley translators have The Detroit Praise Network on 98.3 and 99.9. The translator on 93.5 is some Latino format.
