I was just told by a reliable source that Jim Harper does whatever program he still does from a home studio.

... The internet connection hiccups on WJR make for a hard listen. Harper can't get on the Lodge, and drive to the Fisher Building in light traffic, early on Saturday morning?It seems to me, a real PD would say "This sounds like shit, and until there's a solution, you're doing the show from the station" Harper was WNIC's PD for many years. He knows better.

Why bother to have a studio at all, with all of these radio rubes simply phoning it in? In many cases, an old fashioned POTS line would sound better than a wobbly internet connection ...

Here's something I've pondered in the past. Not only WJR but other stations too.
Is the building closed on the weekends? Is a good majority of the weekend programming remote on purpose?
I don't know the answer to that question. Just a thought that has crossed my mind from time to time.

JJ has done his show from home since it started on WOMC per his comments on Drew and Mike. It was a good interview & worth a listen as JJ talks about his career from start to end. Sept 13th podcast towards the beginning.

I wonder who his replacement will be. Some suggestions, although 99% sure that none of this will happen:

*Spike, formerly of Channel 955.
*Chuck Gaidica. He was at WOMC in 2011.
*Kevin O’Neill. He was there in 1988-1989.
*Dr. Don Carpenter
*Jim Paolucci
*Dave Fuller
*Jim Harper

Kevin, Paolucci, and Harper would all be great choices.
Doc is retired and lives in Florida.
Chuck was 'meh' and very vanilla when he did mornings there before. .
Dave would sound good on WOMC again, but not a good fit for mornings.
I don't think Spike would be a good fit at all.

Gosh, I don’t even remember Chuck being in 104.3.

Chuck was indeed also on WOMC. He replaced Purtan in 2010 after he retired.

Bobby Mitchell replaced him about 2 years later.

Chuck was on Q955 but only did weather for mornings and afternoon Drive.

I think they're looking to cut payroll. The fact he and Mike Stone are leaving at exactly the same time is most likely not a coincidence.

Aside from the possibility of Beau moving to mornings, I certainly wouldn't rule out Rob & Holly of WYCD fame assuming mornings at WOMC.

Beau did mornings for a week or two after Bobby & Stacy's show was cancelled. He was only a fill-in, and frankly, I actually liked how he sounded doing mornings.

Why would you even bother then, to listen to the same 275-song playlist over and over? In that case, wouldn’t you rather build your own playlist in Spotify, You Tube, etc.

It's interesting to watch the same names get thrown around every time there's a shake up on the dial. Jesus Christ, many of these people are pushing 70, if not over. We are watching the names of those who were big when radio was relevant ride off into the sunset, and there are few names behind them that can deliver or have the name recognition. At a minimum, they all had a bullseye on their foreheads anyway. Radio is always making more cuts than a top notch Brooklyn butcher. They can always save the 100K salary and have Bob Schneider pipe it in from Denver. If I had walked by Bill Bonds in a store or something, I would have stopped and said "Holy shit! Was that Bill Bonds?! I wanna go say hi!". Now? If I passed by an anchor on channel 7, I would have no idea. Radio is the same way. We don't run down to Joe's record shop on Fridays to meet the rawkin' afternoon jock anymore. In a way, R6 is right. Fuck it. Just play the burned out music. Knock yourself out.
