As much as I respect Paul W, and Mitch, to some degree, I really believe that the term "unmitigated disaster" will apply to the changes at WJR.

Tell me where I'm wrong. :smokin

Does he still do an appliance show? I thought appliances were a little too complex these days for people to diagnose and repair without special equipment and knowledge. I did enjoy listening years ago when he would tell 80 year old ladies "remove the rear panel from the washer, and unbolt the motor...", etc. :-)

We went from a handyman show that would assist listeners when they took on a project to "hire it done". Pay someone else to do it. That shows where everything has gone.

Glenn Haege was one of those personalities who could not be replaced.

The programming moves at WJR seem to be poorly executed, with few changes other than the timeslots. Paul W is actually still carrying the insipid "Movie Show Plus" with Greg Russell. If not cancelled, that should have remained with the morning show. Guy Gordon's AM drive program isn't all that different than his previous PM drive show.

I'm thinking WJR could pull a 1.9 6 plus. Too far? :lol

WJR’s time slot changes are like the guys shuffling the chairs on the titanic.

I can remember a time when WJR was all but guaranteed to be the top station overall and have a giant share. 1.9? That's down there with WLLZ and Hot 107.5. What a waste.

Yawn.

Guy Gordon moves to mornings. Paul W. to Noon to 2PM. Renwick gets a show from 2 to 4. Albom moves up an hour. A new sports show with Baligian will air at 6PM (why only one hour??).

The crappy 9a to Noon show remains in place.

I might check out Guy Gordon and I'll definitely give Sean's show a listen, but otherwise, this lineup does little for me.

Paul W. should've been given a 10a to 1p show, followed by Renwick, followed by Albom.

The changes take effect June 20. Still no local newscasts.

The two yentas on the air with Paul right now sure are annoying.

Are the local hosts going to lick the boots of local politicians and newsmakers all day long?
MW, I agree with your lineup, with one modification. While I don't care for Guy Gordon, at least give him a real newsman for AM drive. How about Tom Jordan? The absurd "senior news anal-yst" concept needs to go.

Kevin Dietz needs to go too. The reasons have been outlined here before.

Bringing back Sportswrap was actually the idea of Chris Renwick. He's been doing it on the weekends. Hell, I remember when Sportswrap ran from 7PM to Midnight sometimes. As for why it's only an hour, that's probably because 7PM is "infomercial time" Dr. Ann Marie Colonblow with the funny accent, and other clients of the Sloan Brothers. The low hanging fruit of ad sales. :lol

I would actually enjoy the return of the "Evening News Center" at 6PM and 11PM, but that would require people, and a real newsroom. Bump Sportswrap to 7PM where it was years ago.
Wasn't Sportswrap that show with Chuck Swirsky?
They/them, non-binary and proud.

The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.

If Swirsky ever hosted Sportswrap, it would have been in the '90's. Sportswrap was around long before then. Since I have no memory of Swirsky hosting, that probably occurred when I was out of the market.

EDIT: 1981 is when Frank Beckmann started Sportswrap. Prior to that, Warren Pierce was in the evening slot on WJR.

Swirsky worked for WJR from 1994 to 1998 and I remember him hosting Sportswrap.

If that's the timeframe, then that's why I don't remember. For most of that, I was in Orlando.

As for how the lineup changes are going this week:

Steve Courtney in for the vacationing Guy Gordon.

Chris Alberta (financial advisor) in for the vacationing Paul W. :rollin

The sad part is, Chris Alberta is the best host the station has right now (temporarily).

In some ways, I tend to agree with you. He's a little dry, but that's better than "boring" or "painful to listen to" any day.
