Unfortunately, low wages are probably to blame. Production jobs in TV don't pay what they used to. You get what you pay for.
"Don't you knock when you enter a room?"

With news studio automation, it really is "that difficult" to pot up a mike that's not been programmed to be live during that crossover. There is no "audio person," just a timeline and a director. Wolchek needs to be told to pause a beat before speaking.keto wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 4:02 pmIs it really that difficult to pot up Rob Wolchek's mic while muting the anchors' mics?

Every dang time the anchors toss to Rob, his voice is picked up by the anchors' mics, and then the audio person is late to Rob's mic.
Every. Single. Time.
Wages are not the problem in this market. 'JBK and the other stations are union shops, NABET or IBEW, but the ranks of human-performed production jobs have been thinned.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 8:39 pmUnfortunately, low wages are probably to blame. Corporate invests in robots, the on-air product shows the result of them getting what they pay for.

It's all one person in the automated control room and that error would be a coding error programmed in before showtime. Fox2 has lots of audio errors and I'm not sure why but mics get clipped a lot.
Unintended consequence of automating the control rooms is that it is now hard to find people to fill TD slots because there is no longer a pool of technicians to draw from to move up to the TD position. The new blood has to sink or swim right out of college as a TD and that has become a thankless job.
