V98.7 RIP

Post by BKRPDM » Sun Mar 12, 2023 3:53 pm

After more than 27 years, Smooth Jazz V98.7is done - on terrestrial radio from 1995-2009, and online until last week.

Before PPM, I believe they consistently got good ratings, and appealed to a wide demographic. Sandy Kovach was excellent, IMO.

On Audacy, when you enter V98.7, it leads you to their Soundscapes channel.

I still think there's an audience for a light AC/smooth jazz format. Q93.1 anyone? Can't do worse than their terrible country station.

I always liked V98.7 and am sad to see it go. That being said, I'm surprised it lasted that long on HD and online-only.

I like it too, and until last week when it quit had it as a heavily listened to channel on my tabletop internet radio.

However, that format does not easily lend itself to spots, especially the number and type it takes to make decent money. Totally blows the mood.

Ditto with Easy or Beautiful Music.

The box that many broadcasters won’t look outside of was made in 1969 and hasn’t changed significantly since.

I'm sure it will be missed by many Dentist offices from Livonia to Sterling Heights and from Canton to Clinton Twp, along from Novi to Macomb Twp.

A Few Chiropractor practices in Waterford will be sad as well.

If V98.7 is officially defunct, why is it still listed on the official Audacy and HD Radio websites?
