I recall very little of this station but was trying to get some more information on the history of it. Growing up in Monroe county MI, 102.9 would drown out 102.7 a lot but sometimes it would come in, one think I used to do when it was the bear was put receiver on mono and I could get it.
I can't remember if it was CD102 or CD102.7, the call letters were WXCD. The station was a mix of smooth jazz and New age, sort of like 107.3 The Wave out of Cleveland at the time. I believe this format lasted maybe 9 months? then it became Z rock.
Acceptable registrations in the queue through May 12 at 7:00p ET have now been activated. Enjoy! -M.W.

Cd 102(7) Detroit's Smooth Sounds
Re: Cd 102(7) Detroit's Smooth Sounds
The Smooth Jazz format was short lived on WXCD 102.7 from April of 1991 until March of 1992. WXCD filled the Smooth Jazz void left by WVAE 92.3 “The Wave” which became WMXD in 1989. In March 1992 WXCD dropped the Smooth Jazz format in favor of what become WDZR Detroit’s Z-Rock 102.7, another great station from when radio was cool.

Ok, I remember Z rock, not so much from Detroit but I remember hearing it a couple times in Kentucky around Lexington. Also, I might of heard it on an AM someplace, don't remember where though.

You’re correct WDLZ were the calls for Flint’s Z-Rock 1330 from May of 1989 to August of 1990.billmich88888 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 23, 2022 7:58 am1330am in flint i believe had the format for a while in the 90's

I heard it once at a Fish and Chips restaurant when I was 12. I think Smooth Jazz V 98.7 was basically the same thing when it started four years later. When 102.7 ran this both 93 The Lite and Joy 97 were Soft AC. Jazz 106 was still the main Jazz station in town. Making anything work on 102.7 was usually difficult. Now it is Non-Commercial as K-Love.

I remember WXCD. I was disappointed when WKSG flipped from the oldies format. WOMC was too much competition for KISS. Agree with another poster- WDZR was one of the greatest stations. I think the ratings were solid for a while. The Bear did ok for a bit too.
