How long before 98.7 is simulcasting 950?
1010 WINS is bumping Alt 92.3 in NYC. Can't be too much longer before Audacy does the same here... right?
Does Alt 98.7 make it to see 2023?

I posted about this in the Everywhere Else board, but I think unless the new lineup jolts some life into this station, I would expect that they flip in the next six to twelve months.

Could be interesting if the threat of adding a WWJ simulcast to FM is determined to be something serious.
Cumulus' hand might be forced to make sure WJR gets a FM simulcast first.

It certainly wouldn’t hurt for WDRQ to flip to a WJR simulcast.

We need WAY more broadcasters with even half as much passion as Brady on the FM airwaves!
Brady - hats off to ya, man. Your tribute to the history of alternative rock on 92.3 FM today was OUTSTANDING. I hope we can continue to listen to you on 98.7 here in Detroit.

That was fucking REAL radio right there. Best of luck, Brady. I have turned around on you.

I liked Brady's humor when he mentioned HD Radio and some of the "crap songs". You can tell he has so much passion for Alternative Rock and the station. Best of luck to him.

I found quite a few of his skits to be annoying, but this announcement was great. It was very heartfelt and paid a great tribute to the format’s history in NYC. Hopefully he and the rest of Alt 98.7’s staff will find a way to turn it around, though I don’t expect it to last another year.

Whoaaa, I had him all wrong. I am a fan now. I thought he was just some kid they threw on the radio. He really cares about alternative.
They/them, non-binary and proud.
Remember that “2000 Mules” was concocted by a circus of elephants.
The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.
Audacity sucks.

Re: How long before 98.7 is simulcasting 950?
WDVD and WDRQ work together for sales purposes. DVD's billing already stinks compared to many FM stations in the market due to Cumulus' lack of critical mass when it comes to FM radio locally. WDVD's billing is only about $4 million annually, assuming Cumulus isn't playing games by under-allocating revenue to 96.3 and over-allocating revenue to 93.1. Ditching a mainstream music format from 93.1 FM would put 96.3 at an even greater disadvantage. If Cumulus were to go in such a direction, they might as well put a "For Sale" sign on 96.3.It certainly wouldn’t hurt for WDRQ to flip to a WJR simulcast.
There is very little cross cume between WDVD and WJR, and whereas one station focuses on women ages 25-44, the other skews male and is of appeal to listeners mostly over the age of 50.
Frankly, 96.3 FM might be a better place for an FM simulcast of WJR than 93.1. A retooled 93.1 (with country music remaining in place) could potentially be a viable combo with conservative-leaning news/talk. The fact 96.3 is right next door to an existing spoken word station with monster ratings (97.1 The Ticket) might also be a desirable attribute.
I do think 950 WWJ will gain an FM simulcast within the next two years. It will happen before the 2024 Presidential election. The only question is where. Audacy does have room to acquire one more FM station in Detroit if it can find someone who is willing to sell at an acceptable price. If it does not gain an additional signal, then 98.7 FM would be the obvious destination for WWJ-FM.

Other than Paul W, or Mitch & Company, I can't see why it's necessary to hear infomercials starring Richard Sloan, or Dr. Ann Marie Colonblow, or boring, MSU public affairs shows in FM stereo. The only callers to Guy Gordon's show are OTR truckers on the Ohio Turnpike, or "Mr. Positive"

Maybe if Oscar Frenette were still doing his Michigan vignettes that'd be cool too. But Mark Andrews' parodies on Purtan's show were way better. "Hellllooooooooooo"

Re: How long before 98.7 is simulcasting 950?
It might be worth it to hang onto Alt 98.7 a little bit longer. After the playlist was modified ratings, went up a little bit. In New York there are two AAA stations with one being Suburban and the other being WFUV. In Detroit they have Alternative to themselves. One thing that is not good for the listener is that a simulcast means that a station will be deleted unless the simulcast ends in the future.
Re: How long before 98.7 is simulcasting 950?
They're still going to need to modify the playlist even more, to make 98.7 worth keeping. More rock-based alternative, less wimpy pop. More true alternative, less TikTokAlt. Get rid of the stiffs... (why is Maneskin's "Beggin" still one of the top five played, per the most recent Mediabase report?)
